DD is 9. I had a chat with her a few weeks ago about her body changing and periods. I'd noticed her body hair changing to thicker and darker so thought it was time for the chat.

In the last week she's had some vaginal discharge. I've reassured her that its normal, just another step towards puberty. Last night she asked me about how much there should be, and showed me her knickers. She seems to have a lot of discharge, not smelly or blood stained, she's not red or sore or having any problems passing urine.

So, how much is normal?! I can't remember this happening to me and want to be sure that the reassurance I've given her is correct

Thanks in advance.

TMI here -but quite a lot can be very normal

as long as she is comfortable and it doesn't smell then that's just the way she is

Yes, sounds absolutely normal. There can be lots, and it can vary considerably from week to week.

I actually started a thread in health about that. DD (11.6) has had loads in the last month or so. Really, it's like egg white, not smelly or colored, but gallons of the stuff. So much on one day that DH asked me if she'd wet herself. It was visible through the gusset of her knickers.
It was distressing her a bit so I got her a box of liners. She's happy now. I just wish she'd wrap them up in toilet paper so they don't stick to the bathroom bin.

I think its normal, it was for me, and it can settle down and become less over time

Yep DD seems to get quite a lot too. I also got her panty liners to make it more comfortable for her.

Sorry, only just seen the replies.

I've bought her some panty liners and she's been much more comfortable since. It really felt odd buying her them, it all seems too soon!!

Glad we're not the only ones though, it's always reassuring when someone else has been there too!

Merry Christmas smile
