hi just wondering what chores your 11 yr olds and 12 yr olds have as apparently im being so unfair with dishes, cleaning own rooms and playing with dog for 1/2 hr??? and what punishments to give for stroppy tweens who dont listen to house rules ie no hitting younger brothers ( 6&8) thank you for any advice :)

We have a new system for my argumentative always want last wordds1 (12). When he argues he has to put a mark on blackboard (a talley) I never told him what punishment was or what it equated tocos I didn't know. But he began arguing less as he is more aware and rather than arguing back with him, it stopped it. Once he accumulated 20 (didn't take long), I told him that was 20 minutes earlier to bed. Not had anymore marks up since.

Devised a job list, unload dishwasher, sort washing into each persons pile, dust, tidy lounge, Hoover etc.

Playing with ds2 and dd are not on job list as they are expected as is keeping his room tidy and doing launch lad.

Mine (11 and 13) between them do :daily- setting and clearing table, emptying and loading dishwasher, make their own beds. weekly-Recycling/ sorting, Emptying all the waste paper bins round the house (i.e. not the kitchen bin) , changing the bathroom towels and restocking toilet rolls in the bathrooms. We got fed up with messy bedrooms and imposed "fines" as deductions in pocket money if they weren't kept to a reasonable standard (not perfect but not piles of discarded stuff on the floor!). It seemed to work.
