Lank greasy hair

My Daughter is 12 and has lank greasy straight fine hair. We have to wash it every other day at the moment. She wants it cut into a bob, which should help a bit.
Can anyone recommend a shampoo that would help with the greasyness?
I know it is part of the 'growing years', but it is really getting her down... and in turn me as well ;(
Thank you!

Isn't hair washing every other day normal/standard? That's what my hairdresser recommended Confused

It is more a case of washing her hair in the evening and the next morning it has that greasy look. I have dry hair, because it is dyed, and I don't wash it every other day. If I did the colour wouldn't last five minutes.

I have tried the dry shampoo's on her as well. They just make it look like I have talced her!!!

We have the same problem. Dd1 has to wash her hair in the morning now because, as you say if we do it at night, it looks lank. So we have one good hair day and one alright day.

Watching with interest for recommendations though.

Head and Shoulders Citrus is brilliant for greasy hair.
It could be the method of washing/rinsing, clean hair shouldn't become greasy overnight.
You should lather for up to 3 minutes (which is surprisingly long!), then rinse thoroughly - it's the lack of thorough rinsing which makes hair look greasy quicker.
Obviously, clean hair towel and pillow will help keep it clean for longer, ditto clean combs, brushes, bobbles etc.
Hair product can make it greasy - does she use anything on it?

No, she doesn't use anything. She has hair like I used to have, that is one reason why I dyed it!! I don't want her to dye her hair at the age of 12. I think perhaps a bob and some layers will help the situation.

Thanks for the help guys. Much appreciated

Seconding Head and Shoulders for fine, greasy hair (citrus scented). My DD had the same problem and this got rid of the problem. I think it can sometimes be caused by the same thing that contributes to dandruff. Also make sure that you show her how to properly lather up and get into the roots.

Solis bar type shampoo from Lush are good- £5 quid a gi but lasts ages. Jumping juniper is the variety rec. for greasy hair- i use it myself and have one good hair day and one ok ish day now which is an improvement. Will take up CeliaFate's tips though- I deffinately rush through what is a regular ritual.

Maybe she needs to wash it every morning.

When my hair is short it gets greasy overnight, if it is long I can just about get away with washing at night.

It's a pain but I just have to do it.

I was like that as a teen and ended up washing my hair every day (and still do mostly). Now dd is 9 and her hair is going a similar way. I will try the citrus h&s on her.
I am trying to not make too much of an issue of it as I don't want her worrying about her hair but it often looks dirty. At the moment I get her to wash every three days but it is looking decidedly grotty on the third day. Doesn't help that her lovely bob has some chunks cut out where we had to cut the silly putty out of it Hmm

Avon anti dandruff 2 in 1 is great for greasy hair. Definitely try a cut though as well to give it a lift and do just the morning wash instead of both night and morning. Sometimes those bloody hormones and washing alot can create more oil. My daughter has long hair and we're on 3 times a week and regular trims. hope it helps.

Citrus h&s is pretty good, it's what ds uses now, but I love juicy from lush is brilliant, but he wont use it any more because of the smell 'it's for girls' apparently.Hmm

Try rubbing bicarbonate of soda into it when wet, with some apple cider vinegar. It sounds odd, but it helped my hair when I was young, and because it's not full of chemicals it doesn't strip the hair in the same way, making it want to overproduce the grease. Try not to overwash it, however much it helps in the short term - this will have adverse effects and the hair will respond by producing more of the grease to "clean" itself of the chemicals.

Hope this helps. :-)
