How much sleep do you think 12 yo boys need?

I'm not convinced my DS is getting enough sleep and even though he is physically active I can't seem to get him tired enough to be in bed at a decent time.

Wait till he gets to about 14, then you will never be able to get him out of bed!

As much as they can get! From what I've read the body clock goes awry when we enter puberty (and pre-puberty) making us go to sleep later and wake later. Lay-ins are essential and NOT laziness. And, what custy said.

I agree with lynette.... ds1 is very grumpy in the morning if he gets anything less than 9.5 hours, especially if he's been playing sport.
He played rugby twice yesterday and went to sleep about 9.30pm... I had to drag him out of bed at 6.30 this morning... not pleasant and he'll be getting an early night tonight

My v v active 12 yr old is in bed between 8.30-9pm and sleeps till 7am-ish. I have protests nearly every bedtime that others stay up longer. He really needs those hours.

My 12 year old goes to bed at 9, lights off at 9.30, and up in the morning at 7.30. Sometimes he is quite restless and doesn't get off to sleep for while, so we've been thinking about later bedtimes on Fri/Sat.

Bedtime for my nearly 13yo is officially 9 on school nights, though we have found the time he actually gets to sleep is more like 9.30 now. He has to be up at 7 - the school bus waits for no man.... That's ok tbh, seems to be the right amount. He stays up until 10 at weekends but sleeps in to give himself about the same total amount of sleep.

My 12yr old goes upstairs at 8.30am on a school night with lights off at 9pm. He has to be woken at 7am. On Friday, when he has scouts, he doesnt get to bed until 10pm and I usually let him stay up a bit later on Saturday as well.

However, if I think he looks tired I send him up at 8pm for an early night. He has alot going on and has always been a child who needs alot of sleep.

DS goes to bed at 9.30pm - sleep by about 9.45pm as custy said light of, no distractions....the way it has always been since v little...and his body just switches off...

He then is up at 7am...weekends I let him sleep in till about 8.30am he usually has footie at the weekend so he has to be up but a little later than a school day..

A lot of his friends are still up and about at 10.30 11 ish.....far too late imo, DS needs at least 9 hours

or he cant concentrate properly
