My 3yo is showing an interest in the letters and words in his books and I've started to explain letters/sounds to him as I believe in making the most of this interest! Anyone got any advise on the best aproach?

whatever you do, do it in context and make it fun

so, teach him to read his name or yours first

glad i found this thread! we've just moved to germany and ds1 wont go to school till he's nearly 6 so i wanted him to learn to read english in the meantime!

dd had learned using oxford reading tree books but didnt want to spend a fortune buying loads of those when we've got many good books in the house once he knew the basics!

will definitely buy that book!

TeacherGran, that looks great. i've just bought it and will let you know how we get on.
DD1 was reading before age 4, i don't know how, they did phonics at nursery and she just picked it up very fast. DD2 is now age 3.5 and can read some words. She won't be going to school until sept 2010 (october baby) so i'm going to give this system a try as she is keen to be reading like her sister.

Have a look at these books. My DS is 3 and he can read all the books I've created for him, he loves them! His favourite is the one about his daddy!
