Is 3 too young for full time school?

So I live in Wales,UK

here children start full one education at 3.

It's not compulsory until the age of 5 though.

My little girl has been in nursery 3 days a week for 2 years

But I can't help but think full time in a school is a lot at such a young age

What is everyone's thoughts on this?

My daughter did.

Where are you that it’s still full time at 3? I thought every LA had reduced to part time now.

I think it's too much. Mine just did their free hours until they started school which was 5x2.5 hrs a week

To expand, DD goes to a welsh medium school and went full time in order to fully immerse in the language. Has she struggled at all I’d have reduced her to part time. She absolutely thrived.

All of my dc so far have started full time school at 3. Dc2 is an August baby and so was 3 and 3 weeks on her first day of school.
They've all been completely fine.

My DD went to a Welsh medium school. I picked her up at lunchtime
Had she been educated in English. I’d have done the same

She has started a welsh primary, because she was 3 in June it worked out she would start full time and no half days - although I know a few children did half days for a year.

I think she's very young to be in education full time

It's very young. I kept my daughter part-time till reception (age 4). I noticed that the children who had been in school nursery full time coped with reception much better than the ones who had only done 15 hours. Now they are older you can't tell who did 25 hours and who did full time so I think you should just do what works best for you.

When mine were little, a lot of the Nurseries offered full school hours, so mine all went and loved it. Thrived in fact.
So some dc do. Others, OTOH, would struggle until they got used to it.

Which LA area are you in?

I live in an area where full time school starts at 3. DS a summer born too, so he had just turned 3 when starting.
For him, it was great... he loved it. For others, not so much.

Surely they don't really do full time school in the same way as they do at aged 7 though?

My DC were at nursery at that age from 8am to 6pm but with some more formal learning in there, as well as plenty of free play, when they were 3 and 4

Curriculum in Wales is play based until Year 3 (in theory). Moreso in nursery and reception than in year 1 and 2, but still.
