Hello, I have had my child's name on the preschool waiting list near my DD's school since he was about one. Dd went there and loved it but for various reasons I have belatedly realised I don't want him to go there!

I have enquired at another preschool in a sure start setting close to my house. It is an outstanding, super duper one and I am now worried we have no chance! We want it from Sept but January would do. What are the chances I will get a space having applied relatively late?

I know this is a how long is a piece of string thread but positive stories would be gratefully received smile

The longwinded reasons I don't want him to go there are:
1. I heard some bad things about it today (a child got injured)
2. DD only went there one session a week as she was at a childminder. I sent her there purely because it was near her school. It is a small pack away preschool in a hall.
3. DS is evolving to be so much shyer than she is and hasn't gone to any setting yet. I worry the two are connected so I want him to have as full a preschool experience as possible. This school even has a forest school! I so want it for him now. Am a dufus for not realising this when it has been on my doorstep a this time.

I think you'll just have to ask your preferred preschool if you are likely to get a place. They should be able to give you some indication as they'll know how many places they have and how many children are on the waiting lists.

Well Thanks for sharing your query over here. You should personally give a visit there and have a talk clearly, from this you will get a confirmation whether to search for new preschool or not..

No need to be rude to the OP Darlene. But yes, I do agree that you need to address your question to your preferred preschool OP. We have no idea how many children are on the waiting list, how places are allocated or how many places they have to start with. The preschool will be able to give you an indication of when a place may become available.

I understand your reasons for not wanting your son to go to the preschool you originally chose. But could you start him there while you wait for a place? Alternatively, do any private nurseries near you offer funded places?

When you speak to them it's worth asking their admission criteria. One of our local ones gives priority to the oldest children. Another takes children in the order they applied.

Thanks for your replies. I was just looking for positive stories about late applications, as the preschool my daughter went to is very bad at communication about waiting lists or otherwise and I assumed this one would be too. Actually they were lovely and said it should be fine. He is on the list at both now (my post is from a while ago) so we'll see what happens. I am less anxious about him going to the other one if he has to anyway... think I was just having a moment.
