My DD's preschool needs a bigger space and are looking to extend to cover afternoons and maybe evena breakfast / after-school club.

Need fund-raising ideas for large amounts of money as need to get to £19k ASAP.

Any ideas??

Not sure about wealthy parents

Was thinking about asking local businesses to sponsor us but not sure how to ask!!

Golf day sounds good

Worth finding out about grants/government money - esp if you are doing breakfast clubs etc as these are being encouraged at the moment. If it was me, I'd contact the council, Sure Start, LEA, anyone who might know where there are currently sources of this kind of money.

There is a book called the 'Directory of Grant-Making Trusts' which your local reference lib should have - I assume that it's still around, as I haven't looked at it for years - for all I know it might be on the web by now. But it will list local and educational charities who may be able to help.

Also, auction of promises/gifts (local businesses will usually help with prizes for this kind of thing).

Definately talk to your local council, there is funding round here for new spaces also look at the lottery, they give grants for this sort of stuff.

Speak to the childcare information service - they will know who you can speak to in the council (it's normally the Early Years team)

Good Luck

twocats beat me to it but def look into LEA grants as you are offering extended day care and that is high on the agenda at the moment. Are you a member of teh Preschool Learning Alliance? In my exp. they are great at these kind of questions.

If my preschool was doing this we would have to go the grant route, but depends on teh wealth of the families using the preschool - if they are well off do a ball - I heard of a village near us raising 5K by doing this.
Get people to sponsor a brick / wall / whatever with a plaque or nameplate - people will love the idea of their child's name being associated with building a new preschool.

Good luck and nice to see someone doing things like this.

Thanks for all these suggestions, I have printed this thread off and given it to the commitee chairman who is going to look into the grants and lottery funding.

The childrena are all doing a sponsored walk next week to raise money, so please wish us luck and tanks again for all your ideas.
