Hi.

Dd is my 3rd child. my first 2 boys never went to school nursery. they both attended surestart 2 hrs aday then started school at reception age.

My daughter attended surestart but showed interest in school because of her older brothers.

School rang us last term and said they had a nursery place. would dd like to go?

We asked her and she seemed excited so said yes.

She started monday and looked so small.

she was ok for a few days but has started to get teary and clingy in the mornings now :(

She is a fussy eater and has been upset at a few dinners and ended up with toast for her lunch.

The teacher said she is super bright. we know this. we do loads with her at home and she already knows everything she woild learn at nursery.

Im a sahm and have a baby at home so i dont need her to be there and tbh i miss her like mad

dh is finding it tough and has actually cried a few times :(

i dont know what to do

she was settled at surestart and we have always been happy with our descision of no school until reception with our others.

Once they start at 5 thats it. they are gone for years. i feel like we have thrown away a year with her we could have enjoyed.

But she does seem happy at times and i dont want to do anything out of my own selfishnesd.

Any thoughts ?

I am tearing up for you here. My DD is preschool year and goes to nursery.
I know what you mean about missing out on time with her.

Could you give it till half term and see how she gets on? How many days is sge going? Can she do part time?

Its a catholic school nursery so its 5 days a week. 9am -3.15pm. no option to do part time :(

My DD started last week. She was a bit teary by the end of last week and was a bit clingy this morning. Both myself and the teacher believe this is primarily due to tiredness. So I wonder whether your DD is also finding it tiring. As you are at home, could you reduce the number or length of the sessions? It sounds like she is enjoying some elements so would be a bit of a shame to withdraw her completely.

I'm sure if you spoke to them about it and explained you think she's having problems settling in, they will be a little flexible? Maybe you could pick her up at lunch time a couple of days a week? Maybe just until half term.

Don't forget it's voluntary for her to be there anyway!

Or is there somewhere else will take her for the 15 hours and she could start in Jan or something?

Can you go back to 2 hours a day in Sure Start?

I felt exactly the same way! SAHM with a baby at home too. My ds is part time though, just afternoons, and despite me having reservations about this particular nursery (& the staff) he loves it.

I hate it & miss him and think he's too young etc but he's confident and sociable and doesn't miss me at all so IMO I don't have a choice Sad

In your situation I would try a different nursery, part time and packed lunches and if she still doesn't like it don't send her and socialise her the same as last year :)

Good luck
