Bag in a box water?

I had to rotate the water bottles I keep for emergencies but - thank you, Brexit and Covid - bottled still water seems to be sold out everywhere.

Have you tried the bag in a box version? Did it taste okay? The claim seems to be that it stays fresh for 4 weeks after opening, which, if true, would probably be a win. Also, easier to store.

I don't really like the idea of long-term storage in soft plastic but I guess in an emergency, leaking chemicals would be my least worry.

Why don't use just fill up bottles from a tap?

Because it wouldn't be suitable to drink long enough - at least not without the work of boiling and preserving it in glass-bottles/desinfected plastic bottles (the latter option isn't great, either). Far too much faff, I am not rotating it every couple weeks.

Tap water last 6 months in washed bottles

Only if stored in the dark not in the type of disposable bottle traditionally used in the UK - although I never been able to find out how much shorter that time-window is with them.

Either way, this doesn't really answer my question.

Water does not go off. It’s the plastic that deteriorates, that’s why plastic bottles have an expiration date. Water needs are more than just drinking. I keep and re-fill plastic used drinking water bottles, mark them as cleaning water and keep them in a dark area. I dispose of the bottles after the expiration date in case the plastic breakdown and the bottles leak. I also have new, unopened bottles for drinking. Supermarket own at 17p each, both still and sparkling. The sparkling water stays fizzy, even after opening, for ages in the fridge.

im not in the uk but water bag/box is very common here in aus. We buy it for travelling (when you go bush must take own water) and sports events, long days out etc this is the most practical. Obvs im different country but its fine and really easy to store. we usually have one in the cupboard in the summer as a fire prep (water tanks get filled with ash & become undrinkable)
