Preppers

Local milk delivery?

I’ve been thinking about longer term preps (like growing some veg) and I’m wondering if in the case of supply chain problems/shortages, we’re better off having a delivery from a local dairy set up rather than relying on supermarkets? What do you all think?

None of our local milkmen including Milk or More are taking new customers as they are swamped. Best check now if you can get anything rather than wait.

If you can it’s a good idea.
I’m very grateful that we switched to a milkman last year. Most deliver more than milk too - ours does eggs, soup, juice, cream.
Obviously I’m praying he doesn’t get ill, but it is taking the pressure off for me at the moment. I’m popping one carton in the freezer every so often to build a buffer in case he can’t deliver at some point.

We live in a semi rural area and our milkman lives a mile away on the farm, they have been swamped with orders and the milkstore with its honesty box has been decimated by people buying extra milk and eggs.

Suburbs here. Had milk delivery for over a year. It's great. I found the sound of clinking bottles very therapeutic.
I also have a couple of tubs of Nido full cream powdered milk.

@bellinisurge I've been thinking about you. About two years ago your posts encouraged me and kick started me to start prepping. There's just me (65) and my 73 year old DH, living rurally, and while we're both in good heath we are of course now social distancing to the max.
Thanks to you I've probably got enough put by to feed us for a couple of months without having to clog up the shops or even try and get a delivery slot. It's all worrying enough - my younger daughter is pregnant with her first - without having to worry about food.
I am so, so grateful you took the trouble to write all those posts helping people to prep. Thank you.
I hope you and yours are well.
And I've got tubs of Nido too! Smile
