Not a Natural or previous preppier but Started looking on here round Brexit time and found it really useful and helpful. Have been able to get a bit sorted and generally don’t feel too bad about things at the moment because of that. So a big thank you to the voices of sense on here that have helped me and no doubt others. One thing that I’m not sure now though is when to stop shopping- when do you stop going to the shops for a normal shop and start getting out the spam??

Don't buy spam if you don't like it. Despise the stuff. Shop as normal if you are comfortable doing it. Don't if you are not. You have the choice if you are prepared.
You will inevitably not have something. Or not enough of something. Get over that and make the best with what you have.
Emotional prepping is important too. Which means finding simple ways to unwind.

Spam... yuck. (Tinned peaches & evaporated milk... absolutely drool worthy)

For emotional prepping, I've got a sizeable stash of yarn & fabric, & 3 sewing machines. So I'm set.

Another thank you. I’ve lurked on some of these threads and taken some good tips.

Yes me too. I am so much more prepared (without panic buying) than I would have been without quietly reading and heeding these threads the last few months. Thank you .

Another thanks here. We have put 1 or 2 extra items in my trolley for nearly a year.
It's meant that I have been able to donate stuff to my local food bank this week, and pass on nappies to a neighbour who couldnt get any (dd potty trained recently).
I'm going to continue to do my normal weekly shop while we can and take what I can to the food bank.

Also jumping on the back of this thread to say thank you to mumsnet preppers. Smile During the beast from the east in 2018, I remember thinking I should probably have some food in, in case of emergencies (after the local supermarkets were low on staples for a week), but didn't get round to it, mainly because in my head I couldn't justify the extra expense. Then in late 2018, in the lead up to Brexit, I started reading threads here, and got my arse in gear, buying only one or two items every time I went shopping as a few of you recommended. I nearly dipped into my stash in January this year after the delay in officially leaving the EU, but something stopped me. Thank you all for the advice and guidance. As someone with an underlying health condition, this reduces the difficulty and expense of doing a big food shop all at once without a car, reduces the risk to my health and make me feel better that I'm not making the current panic-buying worse. Genuinely appreciative here. Smile

I'm grateful for these boards. I was here back when they started and it was effectively a hobby for me, and came back during the Brexit days. It's helping me to stay calm as I know I've done everything I possibly can, the rest is out of my control.

I'd like to say thank you too. I prepped all the way through last year, have got rotation under control and have bought very little that won't be used. I can imagine this may become a way of life once this trying time has passed.

Thank you too. I started when I was pg with my third as from experience knew sometimes is hard getting out with a newborn and then carried on as was worried about Brexit. A couple of days of snow showed me how crazy the panic buying can get.. I live in a town that has easy access to many shops and supermarkets yet there was no bread or milk after 2 days of snow a few years ago. My dp is a Brexiter so I thought he wouldn't be on board with the brexit prepping, but I just said it was 'the store' and he didn't know much about it.
He actually initiated the Coronavirus prepping as he had been reading up what was going on around the world, so we both began to stock up gradually a few months ago. So thankful now, that we are not struggling to get hold of things. Even if an event doesn't have an effect on the supply chain, people can by panic buying! I hate it now though that people talk about people like us 'stockpiling' as selfish. It's a taboo to buy anything in bulk or be prepared for a month. But we are actually taking the strain off as using our supplies when things have gone crazy. I'm wary about revealing too much of what I have irl in case people think I'm one of the 'scum' as they call them, who clear the shelves. I suffer from anxiety so it makes me feel more secure, especially at the moment when going out too much could risk exposing me to the virus.

I'm the same as Alphajura, must have been the same winter that the slow recovery of shop stocks gave me a jolt. I've lurked on here and pulled together a Brexit stock. Most of what we have now is that.

I am very grateful to the poster with a DP in the NHS that wrote that a global pandemic was the most likely emergency. I bought a lot of paracetamol over the last year or more that's still in date. I'm not putting pressure on shops.
