A question about oxygen absorbers

Hey all!

I have just started playing around with a dehydrator, but I’m not sure what “cc” oxygen absorber I will need for storage - i will be drying out a variety of fruit and veg and they will be going in either 1 or 1.5 litre glass jars.

Could anyone give me some advice (or even better, links 😁)?

As a side note, are there any things that you like to dehydrate that are particularly good? And how long would you say they would keep with my method of storage?

Thanks!

Sorry I missed this. There are a few good books including "An idiot's guide to .." which is probably specifically marketed at me Grin.
I don't

I could be wrong but I think most of your post might be missing... Grin

Oops ... I use oxygen absorbers myself bought from Amazon. Also citric acid to dissolve in water which most fruit/veg require a 10 min soak in first.
Highly recommend 1960HikerDude on YouTube.

Thank you for getting back to me bellini 😊

What cc do you use?

Dehydrate water melon - those chunks you get in the supermarket. Often on half price but still looking good and fresh. Absolutely delicious. Intense melon flavour. Or other melon chunks. Slice them to about 2-3 mm thick before dehydrating them.
I pick them up at Aldi all the time.

Mine were 300 cc.

I think I’ve seen you mention watermelon on these boards before - I will have to try it Grin

Also, thanks for letting me know the cc! Too many options!

That was a "take a wild guess" choice that I made and the product has suited me. I think it's from Freshepak Ltd. I got it from Amazon.
My Idiots Guide to Dehydrating was also from Amazon. Second hand so it was cheap.

Haha it obviously worked out Grin thank you for your help! Also good I asked because I hadn’t thought of the citric acid wash 😅

I think my beloved melon doesn't need a citric acid wash. GrinIt's actually not much of a big deal to do for other veg/fruit.

I suppose it’s probably more fruits with skins being dried as well? Berries etc? I found some amazing blueberries at a local market stool the other day so going to go back for a load more next week to dehydrate 😁 will be handy to have some for that!

Make sure you pop the skin of each blueberry with a needle. I know it's a drag. But worth it if the blueberries are sweet and yummy.
Or look at blueberry fruit leather.

I will do 😊 I want them as small dried blueberries so I can use them in baking (as well as nibbling on the occasional one just because 😂) the ones I got the other day were amazing - big, juicy and delicious! Hopefully they are that good next week!
