Just me and my son age 12 (special needs) and wondering what entertainment things I can stock up for us.
We do have some board games, UNO, some dvds and books

What other things can I get in case of power cuts etc

If they have a tablet they are allowed to play on, a decent battery bank which could recharge the tablet a few times is handy.

It's always a good idea to have one for your phone anyway.

What things does he like? Crafts, board games, musical instrument, books, outside play equipment? Maybe keep a few bits out of sight and then they will be new and exciting (if that’s appropriate, otherwise trying to introduce non-electronic entertainment now may be a better option).

I'm not stocking up at all on these since we have loads of options anyway but how about colouring books, small games like banagrams which can be played alone or with someone else, audio books to play on a small battery powered cd player, those make your own choices books (Ian livingstone dungeons and dragons type books). They just need a dice and a pencil.

We would be fine. DS1 is a dungeons and dragons geek and would engage us all in a 24 hour dungeons and dragons marathon

Difficult, but not impossible, jigsaws that would take time to do.

A solar charger for a power bank to be able to charge some electronics/phones for limited use.

I second the playing cards - and maybe a book of card games/tricks.

Do you have sources of light for entertainment after dark? As candles and torches are not great for reading or detail work, but might be fine for board games. But a lantern (with spare batteries), a tilly lamp with kerosene, or a camping gaz (TM - other brands are available) gas lamp would all be useful for brighter and more constant light in 1 room.

Do you enjoy music? Is it worth having an instrument and an instruction book, to try to learn (or rekindle past knowledge)?

A game we enjoy is QBitz, as it can be for 1 person to play alone, or up to 4 (or more if you get extra sets of the blocks) to play together.

A bag of dice can be useful, in case some go missing from games but also to make games yourselves.

Or some dominoes to make intricate patterns or marble run or lego etc - things that you can design and build, then pull apart and build again differently. Or build and then play with.
