Preppers

Trump and prepping

The general MN populace is talking about prepping again. Thanks to our friend Trump.

Any changes to your prepping as we count down to Armageddon? We haven't made any changes except for DH insisting on stealing my Osprey bag for the bug-out bag because he is convinced that the more 'prepped' bags (like those ones with para cord for handles) make you a target. Hmm

There is a saying about condoms and guns, "better to have one and not need one, than need one and not have one". I think I am thinking the opposite about iodine tablets for radiation poisoning, "if you need one, better not to have one and neck some vodka and painkillers"

Just - and as always - Good Luck to you and yours.

Meh - I looked for nuclear bunkers near me the other day (at least 90 minutes hard drive away!).

I'm in the throes of trying to get organized anyway, sort the house etc. Re-do the budget, clear out and use up freezer stuff, get organized for summer outings (hiking, camping, BBQs etc).

And lots of that means checking my stuff that would be used in emergencies.

We bought a wind-up torch for camping yesterday.

I'm planting more veggies than normal (although that is not specifically in response - not entirely unrelated either though).

But overall, Trump-related improvements - a clear plan to avoid the US in the near future, and not travelling to the middle/far east either. That's about it....

I'm growing more vegetables too, loads more. Although that is more of a prep against all the price rises we're experiencing recently. It's quite time consuming!

It's very time consuming in my experience. People just don't realise, often, how desperately hard life would be.

Growing veggies, selling property and not using as much of medicines as I need to incase I should fancy a quick exit.

We have heirloom vegetables. Another thread possibly. Because with most shop bought that's your lot. With heirloom you can seen save and keep going. DH has a plan to farm the golf course come the zombie apocalypse but goodness knows how he intends to protect it!

Does he realise what growing food entails? The sheer back-breaking labour involved? For ever?

If he does.............

My apologies if I sounded harsh there, MrsTerry. I know you're more prepared than most.

He's very fit and strong so would do better than most. Although working out in a nice clean gym and running home isn't farming Grin

Ask him what his plans are for ploughing. Horses or oxen? Wink

If those idiots kick off, I fully expect to be a pile of glowing dust! So no need to prep for that!

Vegetables can be very hard work - especially root crops. Better luck next year.

Our summer has been dreadful so all the terrible boring veggies are fine. The nicer stuff like tomatoes are suffering.

Yes my tomatoes haven't thrived. Blight, but now I know I could have prevented it, it'll be different next summer. My beetroot have been a triumph! (Hate the buggers though Grin)

Preparation, prevention, rotation etc etc etc. These are all things to become familiar with when you don't absolutely need the veg. (Imagine if there was no shop to buy the things from!)

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 09/08/2017 21:23

Yes I've bought the books (in case there's no internet to google) and a good supply of seeds (in case of short supply). Getting prepared!
