Has prepping influenced any gift giving for you?

I'm buying most of the family things like rechargeable (dynamo) lanterns, radios etc. Useful and gadget-y.

I'm hoping they'll be a success as well as possibly stimulating thought.

Not directly but an giving both the girls there own maglite torches with led upgrade bulbs as my eldest has an annoying habit of disappearing with mine and I can't find it when I need it

Hell, yes. DP has no requests, and I have no ideas so I'm getting him the full winter car kit following the excellent list posted on one of these threads recently.

Oh, and the SAS urban survival guide as a tongue-in-cheek gift as he thinks prepping is silly though I will read it from cover to cover

Dd (9) asked for 'surprises' so she's getting a wind up radio/torch/phone recharger - hope it's not a shock.... she's also getting a new sleeping bag which she did want and a little torch for her schoolbag. I added some water purification tablets and 2l of coleman's fuel to my order as well. My dp is looking worried! I'm quite pleased with myself.

Scallion, you mean the Coleman fuel for the unleaded stoves or lanterns ?

A bit late now if you have ordered it but for future reference you can also use Aspen in the blue can not sure how it compares per litre when buying it per litre but it is around £20 for a 5 litre can and I know I couldn't sell 5 litres of Coleman fuel for the same price as I can buy Aspen

It is a similar naphtha based fuel with a 5 year shelf life like the Coleman fuel but with the added bonus of being able to use it as petrol if you needed it in a car, Coleman fuel can't be used in vehicles even in an emergency

Hi zombies thanks - it's the liquid fuel for using in a pressurised sig type bottle. I'd read about aspen 4t on various outdoor sites and most people did seem to be saying it was naptha so the same thing. I hadn't had time to get to an outdoors shop and was a bit worried I had very little fuel left so in the end I just added 2l onto an online order but aspen is definitely cheaper. I just need to use the stove more and buy aspen next time.

I sometimes give out swiss army knives. They are nice and convenient to carry around in your pocket and they have multiple uses. Plus people won't think you're a "mad prepper" because they will just see it as another cool accessory to carry about.

Well the gifts went down rather well it seems. The rechargeable items were all being opened and tried out on Xmas morning itself which makes them rather successful, I think.

(And the survival tins were seized on with great glee by the teenage lads who started opening them and checking/assessing contents. I count myself lucky that I haven't been eg garrotted by some fishing line since Xmas - prepping items seem to contain so many implements of destruction.)

Not really. I don't buy gifts to a lot of people, and when I do, I try to buy something they'd genuinely want and enjoy, which annoyingly rules out preppy things, mostly. DH has a big birthday coming, but buying prepping stuff would just be me buying myself a gift rather than him. Hmph. A friend has a big birthday coming, too, but he's very capable of looking after himself.

Now, as to what I ask for gifts for myself, yes. I got a very nice, good quality power bank from Santa, for example. :)
