Anyone else experience toddlers with night terrors, my son 5 was prematurely born not by a huge amount, then spent a week a NICO occasionally he experiences horrid night terrors, he's shaking although eyes open doesn't recognise me and takes time to calm him down to go back to sleep. I know research has been done in adults after periods in ITU of experience night terrors, anyone else experienced this with LOs any tips to help him, he looks terrified and it's awful

One of mine had night terrors, but not the premature one. I doubt it’s related tbh.

If they’re night terrors rather than nightmares then they don’t actually remember much of it. Just hold him as he wakes and let him calm down. I put mine in my bed at this stage.

Hope it gets better soon.

Same!

I found that showing DD photos of family on my phone sometimes snapped her out of a night terror. Hit and miss though. Nothing else worked, we just had to ride it out. Apparently overheating can make them more likely to happen so check if he might be too hot at night.

Is you DC on any medication? My DD started having night terrors and disturbed sleep and eventually I linked it to side effects of one of her medicines (Montelukast). She was a different child once we stopped. DD doesn’t have asthma but did require a lot of breathing support as a neonate. I’m not sure how commonly montelukast is prescribed to preemies.

Both my kids had night terrors. One preemie, one full term born. I don't think it's related.

My 35 weeker has night terrors (he's 4 now) and I've never thought it's connected to his neonatal stay. It's just one of those things. His dad sleep talks occasionally so I think it's just in his genes, probably.
