how do hospitals expect you to sleep in these chairs?!

Just that really lol. 4 days in to my DD being treated for bronchiolitis. She's is an x preemie and really struggling. So am I. It's so hard to rest on these cast iron chairs, Im not in a good enough state to look after her

I only know of 1 childrens ward in my whole region (apart from a PICU/PHDU) who dont allow parents to sleep in beds by their childs cot and the ward in question had 2 critical incidents where they have needed to resuscitate children in an emergency and couldnt get to the child because of the parents beds, not only of the sick child but of surrounding children.

I dont know what the answer is but I would suggest complaining to PALS and letting the nurse in charge or ward manager know how difficult it is for you. Perhaps they could consider reclining chairs which dont take up too much room and are on wheels or easy to move around.

I just joked to the day staff that I was going to design a comfy chair and make millions and she said they used to have them but the parents destroyed them by picking the coverings off and pulling the stuffing out 😡

I’ve stayed in three hospitals and they have all had either folding beds or a chair that converts to a bed (and actually was not too bad). Sounds like your hospital is especially badly equipped unfortunately. You have my sympathies- sleeping is hard enough with a sick child.
