Hi everyone.

Hope some people will remember me. I posted back in March as my waters had broke at 23 weeks and I went in to labour at 24 weeks. This was 11 weeks ago and now have a beautiful little girl who is doing amazing even though we are still in nicu. Just thought I would post an update so people (especially those facing this situation) can know that there is hope as when my waters broke I really thought it was game over for her and was told by doctors she wouldn't be able to be resuscitated if born at that stage. Before she was born at 24 weeks I had a growth scan which estimated her the same size as a 19 week baby. I was so scared as if this was correct she wouldn't have lived but obviously was wrong as she was born 1lbs 5oz.

She is now 3lbs 9oz. She hasn't encountered any major set backs yet and fingers crossed she won't. She is just tiny. She does have a pda in her heart but it's being treated with medication. She is on low flow oxygen and on the minimum amount they can be on she has very good lungs. We are out of intensive care and in the nursery now and she's taking all feeds by bottles.

Xxx

I don't think I saw your original thread but just wanted to congratulate you on your baby girl. It's lovely to hear she's doing so well.

That's wonderful news. Thank you for taking the time to update us, I know how hectic life is with a baby in NICU.

What a little fighter you have there - also just shows how inaccurate growth scans can be as 1lb 5oz is a good weight for 24 weeks I think. Glad Nala is putting on the weight and hasn't experienced any other major set backs. Hope she'll be home with you soon.

My friend's DD was born at 24 weeks 0 days, so I have had a glimpse of how terrifying it is. She's now 7, and other than needing hearing aids she has no ongoing medical issues. It's incredible to think of how tiny and desperately vulnerable she once was, when you watch her tearing around the park!

That's fab congratulations. Iv had two prems (lost one) and it is amazing what neonatal can do.

My thirty weeker was 3 11 and spent 6 weeks on the unit so looks like Nala (lovely name) is catching up fast.

I remember your post and how you held on for an extra week after your waters broke to give her a chance to grow a little more.
Wonderful that she is doing well.

I hope you are ok too, and not getting worn out with all the travel to hosptial

Congratulations Nala! I currently have twins in nicu high dependency - 10 weeks old this week, born at 26+1... (1lb 11.5oz and 1lb 7oz)

Their PDAs have closed, but they have Chronic Lung Disease, so are still on CPAP, but are putting weight on steadily, so we are hoping for their lungs to improve as they grow.

It's a bloody long slog, isn't it!

I know this was posted a while ago, but just on the off chance you look again... thankyou for this post! My son was born 8 weeks ago at 24+5 and 870g (1lb14oz). He now weighs 1240g (2lb11oz) and has just got down to low flow oxygen today. It has been a longggggg 8 weeks, but I am finally starting to feel hopeful and more positive! Would love to know how things are going for your family now? Xx

Please let us know what the Bleeding grades has been with your premature baby?

mine was born 23 weks and 5 days with bleeding on both:

right - large bleeding
left - mid bleeding

they docs saying that the outcome of this bleeding is severe disabilities.

This broke my heart cos i am not mentally prepared for a disabled child having to see him suffer and suffering all my life.

God forgive us.
