Anyone able to give me stories of preterm birth where steroids were not given?

I'm anticipating intervention within the next fortnight so before I am 37 weeks. My consultant is very very anti steroids if not crucial and recommends heavily that I do not opt for them if I am 36+ weeks at delivery (section) having cited some research about it at me that suggests long term health would be affected for a short term issue that isn't that common to justify it at 36+ weeks.

I suspect he's ahead of current practice with his research as most people I have discussed this with would not think twice about steroids being administered.

Hi post 35/36 weeks steroids are not recommended. Can't remember if it's adverse effects or no effect but they don't generally give them

Steroids mature the lungs but they increase the risk of brain bleeds and significant use is associated with later developmental difficulties. With v preterm babies these risks are balanced by their benefits, with later babies the lungs should be sufficiently well developed that the benefits arent really there. Good luck with your little arrival!

Thank you everyone. I have now declined them for a section delivery.
