Selective Reduction or termination during pregnancy

Hi All,

We received some terrible news today at our 12 week scan that one of our twins has an abnormality and won't survive post pregnancy.

At the moment, the other twin looks healthy and well which gives us some tiny glimmer of hope but we are still heart broken and so scared of what's to come.

We are having to be referred and awaiting details on Monday but the hospital have said selective reduction or termination may be an option. Has anyone gone through this before please and would kindly share their stories? I know there is a risk that comes with the procedure and it all sounds very daunting.

Was looking forward to toasting celebrations virtually with our family this weekend so it's all very sad.

We have some friends who sadly went through this. They had the poorly twin taken out to give the other one a better chance. Happened about 18 weeks.

Their surviving son is now 1.5 and an absolute dream, but they always talk about the one that passed, very openly.

Thinking of you 💕
