How do I get an abortion (Scotland)?

Do I need to go to my GP? It's impossible to get an appointment and I really don't like the doctors at my surgery. Would I still need to go to the GP if I went private? How much would that cost? What is the absolute quickest way? I imagine many places are closed for the holidays. No idea how far I am. Last period October (middle-ish). Any advice greatly appreciated. Also does it have to be done in my local area? Would feel more comfortable in via I used to live in where my sister still is so she could be with me. Obviously that's the least of my worries though.

You can self-refer privately up to a certain point in the pregnancy, and that point depends on where in Scotland you are. Have a look at this.

You'll see that a sexual health clinic can also refer if you don't want to see your GP.

Hi OP. I hope you have managed to get some more information. I was in your situation (also in Scotland) two years ago finding myself pregnant on Christmas Eve. I managed to get an appointment privately with NUPAS in Manchester for January 3rd. The next appointment at my local sexual health clinic (who have to arrange a termination for you where I live in Scotland, GP can’t arrange it directly) wasn’t until January 14th or something, when I knew I would face another wait of 1-2 weeks before the actual termination. The actual procedure was under £500 and for not much extra I could have had surgical. You will find the prices on most of the main providers websites. The only private I could find in Scotland was Spires in Edinburgh starting at £2k for surgical. For flights for me and a friend (clinic wouldn’t let me come alone because of procedure I chose), the procedure and a hotel for one night I must have spent close to £1k but it truly was worth it for the relief at the time that it was over. Also bear in mind I think I made the appointment on the 27th or something so i was booking everything very very last minute so prices were high. They did say that January/February is their busiest time. Marie Stopes I was looking at a wait time of 3 weeks just because of the time of year so I was glad to have found NUPAS who could fit it in so quickly. They were very helpful on the phone even suggesting hotels and organising taxis.
