Pregnant after husbands vasectomy

I'm really scared. I think I'm pregnant- despite DH having a vasectomy last year. He had the tests in March to make sure it had worked- and it had (apparently)- but since yesterday I've had pregnancy symptoms which I recognise from being pregnant with my DD's; really sore nipples and extreme tiredness. The sore nipples were the first clue with DD2.
I would have conceived on Sunday 9 April and the test this morning was negative- but I know it's too early to reliably test. I expect the test I take in a week to be positive.
When I was pregnant with DD2 I took a test 9 days after conceiving which was negative. The test I took a week later was positive.
We don't want another baby- absolutely sure about that (hence the vasectomy). So if I opt for termination- would it be the medical (pill) option? How does that work? How long would I bleed for? And how quickly after getting a positive test would I be referred to the hospital or clinic? I'm meant to be flying to the US in mid May- would this still be possible if I had the termination at the beginning of May?
Sorry about all these questions. I'm not in a good place Sad

Ah shit, sorry op that's a really tough situation.
Would you be able to contact your nearest sexual advice clinic, or make an appointment with your doctor to discuss your options?

Can you get to the doctors quick and have a blood test to check, sooner you get everything confirmed

Both my GP and the clinics (Marie Stopes and BPAS) said they would need to wait until I had a positive pregnancy test before they could go any further. I should be able to get that by then end of the week. Once I've got that I should call them and they'll book me in for a consultation- and then the "procedure" after that. The trouble is there's a big wait at the moment- all around the country. I can't believe this has happened- I'm really angry that despite being responsible I'm in a position where I have to either go through an abortion or have a child which we decided we definitely didn't want.

My GP said she wouldn't do a blood test yet- she'd do one next week if I hadn't had a positive urine test Confused

I think you're getting ahead of yourself here....a vasectomy and a negative pregnancy test means that the chances are you are not pregnant. What seem like pregnancy symptoms can be caused by other things.
I think you should try and calm down and wait and see if you are or not before you plan any more.

Op I have three children and had different symptoms with each one so pinning everything on one symptom is abit panicky imo.
Totally get why your panicky though.
I was sterilised four years ago and about two months ago period was late which never happens. I also had very sore boobs and an insatiable appetite which were symptoms of one of my pregnancies.

I got quite panicky at the thought but thankfully my period arrived. Over a week late but the sore boobs and appetite disappeared pretty much straight away xx

I think you're panicking op. If he had the test in March presumably this is the first cycle you've packed in your contraception? What were you using before? If it was hormonal then there's the explanation for your 'symptoms'.

Chaitea- I really hope you're right but I just have a feeling.
Ofudginghell- that's interesting and reassuring! I hope o can update in a few days saying my period has come but I'm not feeling hopeful.....
Northern- we were using condoms before so no hormonal contraception.

Does anyone know what sore nipples can be caused by? The only time I've ever had them before was with both my pregnancies. I've had heavy boobs before my period has been due but never sore nipples...

Seriously doubt you're pregnant. I had phantom pregnancy symptoms some months for a while after my husbands vasectomy. Maybe it's our minds way of dealing with the finality of the vasectomy. During this time of phantom pregnancy symptomatic I got pmt symptoms e.g. Sore boob) that I had never experienced or noticed previously.

Op if you look on ttc boards you'll find hundreds of women with pregnancy like symptoms that just turn out to be normal hormonal responses to raised progesterone post ovulation. The number of times when I wasn't ttc that I freaked out thinking I was pregnant and wasn't was unbelievable and it's just normal cyclical stuff, particularly if you're over 35. This could be the reason for your painful Breasts.

I love you all for telling me there are other explanations for this!
Thegirlinthefireplace- I wondered if it was psychosomatic but symptoms just seemed too real. Here's hoping....
Teabag- I'm over 35 so hope that's it.

I'm honking about doing a pregnancy test tomorrow morning- which will be 11 days after conception- is that too early?

There is no way you are pregnant, hormonal changes can cause all sorts of symptoms. You really shouldn't worry.

Another vote for not pregnant.
If I had a pound for every time I was absolutely certain I was pregnant, I'd have, well, more money than I have in my purse now, anyway.
Good luck.

I honestly wouldn't jump to conclusions. I was completely convinced we must have had a condom failure when dc4 was only about 2 months old (& my periods hadn't returned) I had all 'my' usual early pregnancy symptoms from roughly 10 days after. I worked myself up in to a right state. I wasn't pregnant. I think pps are right you're picking up on normal cycle changes more so than you usually would, especially now you're actively looking for symptoms.

I know the inner panic well op Shock

Im sure it's the mind and body playing tricks on you, like mine did lol!!

Our youngest is now nearly 7. We are finally getting the house how we want it. Finally got two incomes again, finally get a lay in on a Sunday, can eat out more easily and even had two breaks away overnight just me and dh last year!
Then BOOM. Sore boobs, massive appetite and late period ConfusedConfused
It sets the panic off I know lol.

Me and dh both had the same thought of oh shite one evening when he knocked my boob getting in shower and then I said I was sure my period would have been due.
Cue silence in the room for a few seconds then the look ConfusedConfused

We decided to give it a week and if nothing had altered then I'd do a test.
Didn't need to but I have to say I'm 38 this year and have noticed a change in monthly cycles, hormone surges, differing period symptoms the last year or so.

I will cross my fingers for you but sounds pretty much like your body changing Smile
