TTC but feeling confused(38 Posts)
Hi, I came off the pill in March. My last period was March 20th (withdrawal bleed) and I haven't had a period since. I took a test two weeks ago and it was negative so don't think I am pregnant but before the pill my periods were like clockwork so it's a little bit strange although I know it can take a few months for your body to find its natural rhythm again. This week, well I'd say last couple of days or so, I have felt really bloated like my stomach is totally bloated and I don't know why as Itill no sign of period. I feel really tired for no apparent reason either and my boobs are sore. I took a First Response test two weeks ago today and was totally negative so I don't believe I could be with child but I still don't feel like my period is on it's way either as I haven't had any cramping etc and I normally get that. I just wondered if anyone had any advice? I think I will start to worry if no period by July. Since I have had no period I haven't ovulated so I can't scientifically be pregnant. Am I right in thinking this? Any thoughts would be much appreciated! Thanks xxxx
If you tested two weeks ago an still no period then test again
Thanks for your response. When should I test again? It was exactly two days today. The bloating has come from no where either, I cant really breathe in as it doesn't do anything!
I agree with the advice to test again, and would do it today.
You may have ovulated, even if you haven't had a period. You ovulate before your period (on average around two weeks before), so could have ovulated, conceived, and hence had no period.
On the other hand, as you said it can take your cycles some time to settle down after coming off hormonal contraceptives - your hormones have to get back into a normal rhythm after having been disrupted for a time.
If you're still worried, go and see your dr.
Thanks both I didn't realise you could ovulate without a period!
I went to see my doctor last week about another unrelated issue and I spoke to her about ttc and she said come back say September/October if still no period and not pregnant.
I am not expecting to be pregnant but would have thought a period would have happened by now but it could just be settling down.
Also, if I took a test two weeks ago I couldn't be not pregnant then and pregnant now surely? I don't feel like my period is coming just massively bloated, strange for me as I don't suffer from it.
Well if you have continued to have sex then yes you could very well be pregnant, ovulation is the release of an egg not the start of a period, so if you have conceived then no you won't get a period.
Yeh I have but only a handful of times since I took the test. Just worked it out, took test on 24th April. I don't think it is possible to be pregnant two weeks later? I have a First Response test left over as two came in the packet when I bought it two weeks ago. Just feel silly as it might be a waste of time given I only took one two weeks ago! xx
What pill were you on? I had to switch from microgynon to Cerazette owing to migraines and I only took it for one month as it made me crazed, but it was then another 4 months before I had a period. When I stopped microgynon after 15+ years to try for Dd it was only 1 month before I was back to 28 day cycles and then pg next month. It took 6 months from stopping Cerazette to bfp. So it can vary widely depending on the pill and on the time it was taken I think. I was told to leave it at least 6 months before seeking medical help as they wouldn't do anything before then, it is just considered 'normal'.
Since the hormones that tests measure double daily in early pg, testing again after 2 weeks isn't unreasonable. Worry can also affect ovulation though, I'm sure I got bfp because I knew that if nothing happened that month I would go to the gp. Sod's law lol! Good luck x
Hey, I was on Cilest. I was on it for like 10 years came off two years ago as single and not having sex and it took a while for my period to come but when it did it was every 29 days, on the 28th of each month and it stayed like that until I went back on the pill again last September/October. So I have only been on about 7/8 months so I thought coming off it wouldn't be a huge disruption to my body. I am not overly worrying about it as know it can take time. It's more the period, just thinking when will it come and how it feels like it's disappeared. See I thought your period was a sign you had ovulated so just hoping that will come sooner rather than later! xxxx
I was lucky and had a withdrawal bleed, then one period and then fell pg. However I would try a different brand of test as I had two negatives with this brand. I bought some cheap ones from the chemist and did them two days later and got VERY dark lines on both. It is defo possible that you are pg and the bloating, tiredness and sore boobs you are explaining is what I had. I know everyone is different but there is no harm in doing another test Good luck.
If you test again now and get a positive it doesn't mean you weren't pg two weeks ago - it just means that the hormones weren't detected by the earlier test.
I did three tests, the first two were negative, the third (a week post period date) was positive
First response didn't work for me either, nor did clear blue, tesco and co-op brands worked for me
Thanks, appreciate this. Ah I thought First Response would have been one of the best ones to use, I might just go and get some cheap ones then from Wilkinsons or something! Reason I took First Response two weeks ago as I thought it would tell me even if I was only like days pregnant but it was resolutely negative!
The thing is it's been 7 weeks since my last period and that was the last pill period so I haven't even had a natural bleed yet. xxx
I think clear blue digital are v reliable. First response (which I used the day my period was due) gave me a false negative.
I had sore boobs and bloaty feeling when I came off the pill and before I conceived DC1. I put it down to hormonal rebalancing. I was on Microgynon for seven years. Like you, I had fairly regular periods before going onto the pill. Afterwards, they were mental. Different every month, up to 35 day cycles.
However, that was me. You may well be pregnant. If it'd put your mind at ease, test again. Your period is your body ejecting an unfertilised egg along with the lining of your womb. This will not happen until after you have ovulated. If that egg was fertilised, you'd never have a period. Mind, it'll make working out your due date fun, but that's your MW's problem (plus you might get an extra/early scan out of it ).
Thanks for that well it's been seven weeks since last pill bleed and the things I have noticed since coming off the pill is slightly smaller boobs but that's about it. Since Monday I have had this bloated feeling and sore boobs but as I took a test two weeks ago today I just don't know if I am wasting my money! It's been 50 days or so since that pill bleed! Yeh I knew I had to ovulate to have a period so I am thinking I clearly haven't ovulated as no period! xxxx
Hun, If every ovulation was followed by a period, there would be no babies whatsoever! You said you have been having sex so you could well have ovulated, conceived and tested too early! Either use the other test you have, get another cheaper test or go get a test done by the doctor.
Nicole, I think you need to read up about how ovulation and menstruation work.
When you ovulate and the egg is fertilised by sperm, you won't get a period, as you will have conceived a baby.
When you ovulate and the egg isn't fertilised by sperm, your egg dies and this results in a period, as the lining of the uterus is shed.

Hi, yeh I know that but I thought id at least get one period after coming off pill but I haven't. Just took a boots own brand test there and it's a BFP but I'm going to do a few more as I have a First Response one left over and also two came in Boots packet. I don't quite believe it but both lines were super strong/dark. Took test about 7pm. I would never have taken one if those of you that said take one today didn't advise me to!
Thanks guys!! I still don't quite believe it yet though. I took the First Response one and the pink line was quite faint so I don't know what that means! Going to take another test in the morning. The boots one at 7pm was a BFP but the First Response one was a faint positive which I took 2 hours later so still confused!! Xxxx
Tbh I just find the first response tests to be shite. However a line is a positive, take your other boots one in the morning then call and book in with a midwife
I think different tests work differently for everyone. There must be something in your urine that might affect test results slightly, but probably during research it doesn't make statistically significant difference for them to actually tell that. It seems like certain brands work better for some but not for others!
Anyway, a line is a line however faint it is, so once again, congratulations!
