16 weeks, few episodes of blood when wiping over last couple of weeks, anyone else had this?(32 Posts)
I'm sure this is nothing to worry about as it's not like I'm bleeding as such but I've now had 5 occasions where I've had blood on the tissue when I've wiped.
1st time (2 weeks ago tomorrow) - after going for number 2 so put down as straining although did have period pains which lasted a couple of days (had a stressful day that day, when to GP next day who said threatened mc)
2nd time (3 days later) - had overdone it a little, pains again but not as bad. Went to GP next day (different one) who made me feel better as could hear baby's heartbeat (heard this a week ago yesterday)
3rd time (6 days ago) - overdid it in the kitchen, no pains though.
4th time (yesterday morning) - after DTD (we'd not for a while but I felt like it was ok to now)
5th time (just now) - after going for number 2 (slight period pains, nothing major but have niggles)
Each time it's just when I wipe, once a mark on my knickers but nothing much at all. As I said, I'm sure this is fine but as this is 3rd DC and the only time I've ever had any sort of bleeding led to mc (early on), I'm just starting to get a little paranoid again.
Is this quite normal do you think and maybe I've just been lucky before? Or do you think I should get checked by my midwife? I was due my 16 week check next week (I'm 16 weeks tomorrow) but as it's New Year then I'm back to work on Wednesday with 6 children to look after (I'm a childminder), I originally booked this check for the following Tuesday (I'll be 17+1). I'm thinking that there is probably nothing that can be done unless I have a 'proper' bleed but any advice would be appreciated.
By the way, I'm RHneg in case that makes any difference (I know I need anti d at some point but can't remember when and it seems to change each time - my others are 4 and 9).
It can't hurt to go and get checked out, it's what I would do xx
Yes, think I might try and work round work and see if I can still get a midwife appointment for next week to save me waiting another week. Thanks x
I did have this once when about 30 weeks & my midwife said it was probably cervix or something else (can't remember what), but given it & what I'd been doing, had probably been overdoing things. Was told to be v careful not to do so much physically for the rest of the pregnancy (not bed rest, but not pushing heavy toddler uphill in pushchair anymore & no more hoovering & other 'heavier' activities) & to call her back if there was any more. As you've had it 5 times, I'd get it checked by a MW. Sounds good idea to see if you can see her this week rather than next. May be worth also slowing things down a little, as yours does sound connected to overdoing things. Hope it resolves itself & you don't get any more bleeds.
Thanks, I will phone on Monday and try and get an appointment this week. Thanks for telling me about what happened with you, I do think I need to slow it down a bit, not that easy in my job unfortunately but luckily I'm soon reducing my days and I'm actually finishing work on 25th March which is much earlier than last time Got DH around at the moment and as he's down as my assistant on paper, he'll be able to help out with the kiddies to allow me to make an appointment if I can get one
Ive had bleeding in all my pregnancys 2 my 1st and this 1 early bleeding, 2nd one was later started at 22wk was told I had a cervical errosion which can be quite common in pregnancy due to hormones softening the cervix, could be anything as simple as that but its best to be checked out xx
Aww, that's good your DH can help out. Hope you get an appointment this week. Take care & have a good think about all you do in your job & life outside the childminding too. Try & be creative about coming up with alternative ways of doing some things you probably just do as standard, to ease the load a little. Break bigger tasks that don't have to be done all in one go into smaller activities with a little sit down in between. Easier to do this now than truly overdo things and have to cut right down on what you do.
Thanks and will do. Luckily I don't work Fridays so just got Wednesday, Thursday and Monday to get through with 6/7 children then it's back to school. Not only that but due to me being pregnant and lots of changes with mindees, I'm now only going to be working Mondays and Thursdays (apart from 1 child after school on a Tuesday) and Thursdays are much easier than I'm used to (used to 5 for breakfast, 7 on the morning school run, 3 during the school day and 7 after school, Mon-Thurs) so apart from a mad Monday, the rest of the week is going to be very different and I'm looking forward to it! (when pg with ds2 I worked til 10 days before he was born with 3 aged 1 and under and the after schoolers - never again!).
Just need to make DH understand that I'm not being lazy and that I need to take it easy for a reason!
Ive had something similar but more streaks of blood in cm and still get it from time to time this is my 2nd never had it with my 1st.
I was told i have a cervival erosion which may be to blame however every time i have any ive been told to phone maternity triage at my hospital as im also rh neg. Usually they ask me to come in check me over and take bloods then call me back for an anti d inj, p

I was told i have a cervival erosion which may be to blame however every time i have any ive been told to phone maternity triage at my hospital as im also rh neg. Usually they ask me to come in check me over and take bloods then call me back for an anti d inj, policies may differ across the country but if your hospital has a triage in maternity id call them as i was told i had a 72 hour period following any blood to get the inj
The first time I had it it was a bit brown when I wiped then bright red in cm but the rest has just been when wiping (not in cm). Can I ask how far gone you are as I was under the impression that the anti d would be needed if further gone than I think 20 weeks? I also don't think our triage deal with us until 20+ weeks but I can double check that.
Thanks for mentioning, I hate all this worry. This was a unwanted/unplanned pregnancy when we found out but very much wanted by me now and I'd hate for anything to go wrong. I still get the odd dull ache period pain but can't remember if this is all part of normal pregnancy anyway (others are 4 and half & 9 so been a while!)
Just checked and when over 15 weeks we can go to the day assessment unit but that's not open until Monday now. We can call the delivery suite if urgent but I doubt this would be classed as urgent as it's been on and off and only a little when wiping.
U need to get checked by ure gynae time even more so as ure -ve blood group and may need anti d! Good luk x
Thankyou so much MN ladies!!! I've now phoned OOD GP who told me to phone labour ward. They've told me to come in for anti-d and to check me out, poor lady on the phone had to deal with me who burst into tears as I know I should have probably gone in nearly 2 weeks ago! Neither GP even mentioned about me being RHNeg, labour ward didn't sound happy about that!
looneytune sorry i was at work im 24 weeks but my 1st anti d inj was at 13-14 weeks, im suprised it was never mentioned to you thats bad on ur mw part i was told at my booking appt but knew before as had blood earlier on and was told would need anti d once into 2nd trimester, they may even do a pelvic exam to check for cervical erosion while u r there. Im sure its fine but better to be on safe side and get anti d inj.
Please let us know how u r getting on
Don't worry and thanks for getting back to me. Well I'm back now (was only so long as went to visit a friend who is there with her DD (Amelia, in case you've heard of Amelia's Miracle - been all over the press etc.) who has a brain tumour and doesn't have long left I was with them for a couple of hours so popped back to ward but anti d hadn't arrived so I'm back in the morning.
Anyway, apart from a horrible bit of time when they couldn't get baby's heartbeat, tried for ages (felt like a life time!)........they scanned me as they didn't want me worried (think they were a bit worried too) and heartbeat was there so fine. Apart from that, checking my BP (initially high but checked again and not so high, although bit higher than I usually have in pregnancy) and having a look inside (NOT cervical errosion like I'd hoped so not the wiser at the moment), that's it.
So I'll pop in for my jab in the morning then guess wait for my booked appointment with the midwife.
Im so glad baby is well and you will likely get anti d anyway they wait on results to see how much to give you or so im told anyway. The first doc i seen couldnt see anything on my cervix either but on my 2nd trip there a different doctor said that in fact i had a 'very post cervix' and took a longer v uncomfy look and seen it so you never know but at least you have been scanned and no reason was found on that so chance r the blood is from you and not baby.
So sorry about your friends dd i just cannot imagine what they are going through.
The hospital I work provides anti d again at 28 weeks to all rh - patients! Glad u got seen eventually! X
How did u get on this morning? I meant to add that i usually have to go in each time it happens not fun but hey so long as babys safe. Im also diabetic so my consultant has said she will likely check my bloods and give me anti d often anyway
Hopingforno2 - had my anti d this morning and was in and out which was good (stung for a while after but fine now!). I'm going to have a proper chat with my midwife in just over a week and see if she'll also double check about the cervical erosion. As for the scan, I don't think she checked for anything, she made it clear that she wasn't checking for anything other than a heartbeat purely because she'd spent so long trying to find it without success and didn't want me going home thinking my baby had died. It was all very quick and so I'm not sure whether or not she would have seen anything else. At least it's only a few week until my proper scan.
As for my friend's dd, it's so heartbreaking. We met at a post natal group and her dd and my ds2 are just a couple of weeks apart in age (4 and half). They found out in February and were only given weeks to live, told she wouldn't make her 4th bday in June but she did. She's been having a special treatment from America which we've all been helping raise funds for and we're sure that's why she's still here but it's failing now so she's off it and now just trying to keep her comfortable (can't talk, struggles with food, sometimes with breathing and can't walk etc.) She has been such a little fighter but now it's just a matter of time They're at the hospice at the moment for much needed respite, her poor mum looked exhausted last night. Amelia's parents are really a true inspiration to others and will go on fighting to raise awareness/funds in the hope one day a cure can be found for this awful disease.
mrsL1984 - thanks, I think that it's around 28 weeks at our hospital too. I know this jab only lasts for something like 6 weeks and so I'll need the other standard ones still as well as more if I have more bleeding later on.
Thanks again for your advice ladies, if it wasn't for you guys I'd never have got seen thanks to neither GP telling me I needed it!
Im glad ur ok
What a heart breaking situation for your friend my ds is the same age and i cried when i thought what your friend must be going through pretty sure i would not still be standing! I dont know her but i will be thinking of them esp wen i give my own ds a cuddle
Oops sorry, didn't realise you'd posted again. Yes, it's heartbreaking. She's 2 weeks older than my ds2 and I remember when she was just a little baby, you never expect anything like this
Bit more advise...........I had another bleed last night (after DTD) and this time there was a small clot. The hospital told me it was ok to continue with intercourse without worrying but clearly this is one of the things that can set the bleeding off. Again it wasn't a LOT but it was a little more than just on wiping. It was bright red again but I'd probably have just ignored it if it wasn't for the little clot I had. I've been trying to decide all day whether or not to call for advice or is that just pestering? I hate to annoy people but I equally don't want to ignore something I shouldn't. Any thoughts?
I get this a lot but have placenta previa (picked up in 20 week scan) any fresh blood and I have to go into hospital for 24 hours after last blood. They are concerned small bleeds are the start of more serious bigger bleed.
It could be anything such as cervix but if it is placenta you need to know so call midwife or doctor ASAP
I would take it easy I am not allowed more than 40 mins from hospital and can't do too much walking or lifting etc just because of the risks and had to cancel my holiday at 23 weeks pregnant.
Good luck hope it's nothing but always better to be safe x
It sounds like me actually anything touching my cervix, or overdoing it and ive been told just the pregnancy hormones can set off my cervical erosion, however as previous poster said u can never be too safe and they dont mind you calling for advice honestly i let it go wen it happened on a sat as i had clinic on monday told them then and the mw said plz dont sit at home and worry just call and be seen thats what we are here for do update and let us know ur ok
