Bleeding on and off in early pregnancy - any advice?

Hi there

I am currently about 4 weeks pregnant and have been bleeding on and off for about 2 weeks. I reckon I got pregnant on about day 6 or 7 of my cycle and on about day 11 I started to spot. The first Dr I went to told me it was unlikely I was pregnant and took a swab. Then I did a pregnancy test and hey presto BFP! Anyway I am being seen by the Early pregnancy Unit but just as I thought the spotting/light bleeding had stopped - it returns red and then pink and then brown. And repeat. My bloods have been doubling and am due for another test tomorrow. I am in no pain.

Has anyone been through anything similar? This is my second pregnancy - my first was totally uneventful apart from the lovely labour (not). I've been scouring the internet but reckon here is the best place for advice :-)

Hi, My first pregnancy was pretty similar. Bled on and off from weeks 5-8, all shades and the odd gush but never any pain. EPU could not diagnose any reason for the bleed and DD was healthy and born 40+5. If you bloods are doubling that all sounds good as is no pain. EPU won't be much use until about 6/7 weeks for an early scan but try and stay positive sometimes this is just how it is! fingers crossed.x

I spotted through both my pregnancies, one from 6-10 weeks, the other up to 16 weeks, and both were fine. The doctor told me it was a bit like a nosebleed - lots of new blood vessels forming, and some of them break. And she said that bleeding in pregnancy isn't 'normal' as it shouldn't happen, but it is very common.

I bled the whole way through my second pregnancy (DD is one tomorrow) from as soon as the pregnancy test was positive until the day before my section. Sometimes it was spotting, sometimes it was like a full-blown period. She was born with no problems at all - and they never did work out what it was! It was very stressful though so I sympathise.

Just had my fourth set of bloods done today so shall know whether they are looking ok tomorrow. It is stressful only in that I want to put my mind at rest either way.

Thanks for your words of reassurance everyone x

Thought I'd add an update. Although they cant see anything on the ovaries or in the tubes or in the uterus the general clinical picture is that its an ectopic due to some fluid around the ovary. I am having a final set of bloods done and if they are still rubbish - not even quadrupling over a week - then I am having a shot of methotexate (sp). Can't try again for 3 months though.

Thanks for all the feedback
xx
