I am 15 weeks pg and am a size 18/20 so lots of fat though a tiny bump I think under all of it. When do bigger people start to feel kicks? Just wondered....

Hi - I'm a similar size to you and expecting my first. Didn't feel anything til around the 20 week mark when I started to feel little gas bubbles and then some flutters. A couple of weeks later and they felt like real kicks and I'm 27 weeks now and I think he's inspired by the world cup!

Fat or no fat has fuck all to do with it - don't let people patronise you. I won't be skipping down any catwalk in Paris any time soon but I started feeling my baby kicking at 17 weeks. Because of course you feel the kicks inside, not outside.

In a bizarre & stupid twist - I was sent for a 2nd "growth scan" at 30 weeks due to my high BMI. My midwife was embarassed to do this, but standard policy - given that she was having trouble feeling around my uterus due to my highly muscled abdomen. So there you go, both "too fat" and "too muscly".

I did at 14 weeks this time with an anterior placenta. I've justvtipped over into the obese according to my bmi on one of my antenatal things. It's my 3rd so more likely to feel it earlier though

I'm a size 18ish. Felt movement at about 19 weeks.
Think it depends on a few things like how in tune with your body you are, position of placenta etc..
Felt like trapped wind at first but progressed to identifyable movements within a couple of weeks. Noticed it most when I was completely relaxed, like in the bath or when I lay down in bed.

Oh, BTW, please don't refer to yourself as a fat person

Hi yellow, although I am usually a size 10 I did not feel my baby move until about the 20 week mark either so not sure it has anything to do with size. Even at 20 weeks it's really easy to miss, it just feels like something is 'flicking' your insides very lightly, at about 24 weeks the kicking became a lot more noticeable and now at 27 weeks she's kicking for England! Really don't think it has anything to do with weight though, you'll love it when you feel your baby kick, it's a great feeling, just hang on in there for a few more weeks!

I didn't feel any kicks until a couple of days ago-I'm 23wks, and I wouldn't say I was fat! (see profile) I don't think size has anything to do with it, I was worried I wasn't feeling anything because my bump was too small! I was excactly the same as thefatladysings with her dates.

thanks all - that's reassuring. I don't really feel pregnant now because sickness has stopped (phew) but no bump to speak off - am hoping once the kicking starts it will seem real. Congrats to you all by the way. x

The fat wont stop you feeling the kicking on the inside IME.
But it may make it a bit harder to see the feet/hands/elbows of the baby sticking up through the outside of your tummy. My belly would look like a rolling sea on a wild and windy night as the bump heaved back and forth, but I never got that thing my skinner friends claimed to have happen where they see a little hand pop out of their side.

I'm a 20 too, felt first movements at around 17/18 weeks with DS and with this one.

Surely fat has nothing to do with it, as you're feeling the baby with the uterine muscle, which is underneath the fat. Could feel movements from the outside from about week 23 both times as well, no idea when slim people would feel it.

I have the same as piprabbit with seeing movements, it's not very often I see an elbow or something, but my whole bump jumps around quite regularly (32 weeks now)
