Hi everyone,
I am 33wks(34wks on sunday) with my 2nd child and my baby is still breech
I saw my consultant at 30wks and he said they will give me until 37wks for baby to turn and if not then i will have to go up for a presentation scan and then decide on my options, i saw my midwife the following day and told her what was said and asked her to explain having the ECV procedure to turn baby, she explained it all very well but also told me that it has a less than 40% success rate and that 9 times out of 10 you go in to labour shortly after and that the hospital will only do the ECV if there is a spare operating theatre available in case of fetal distress,
Taking this in to account i went home and decided to look up about the ECV online and to be honest it has scared the life out of me with all the possible risks involved..... twisted cord, placenta detatchment, internal bleeding etc etc,
So at the moment myself and my DH have decided not to have the ECV done but that also means i would end up with a c-section i have tried the various techniques to get baby to turn but to no avail.

Has anyone had a successful ECV done or has anyone got any stories to tell me in regards to it?
I want to be prepared if i do decide to go through with it but i want to know the pro's and con's of it all.

Many thanks girls

I had ECV with my second child - went breech at 38wks.

It was easy and not that uncomfortable (compared to giving birth Haha!) Consultant who performed the ECV said he could turn by himself again but that ECV could be re-done right up to early labour.

In the end the baby stayed head-down and came out by himself in 1 hour 50 mins!

Pros- easily done and less hassle than breech or C-section.

Cons- risks posed as per Consultant's advice.

I'd give it tll the 37 - 38 weeks limit and hopefully the baby will have turned itself.

Thanks for the advice
Just trying to weigh it up really, whether it will actually make any difference if i have it done, my midwife says i have the right to refuse it and although i know it is my final decision i don't want to get to the hospital at 37wks if baby hasn't turned and then get backed in to a corner by the Dr's if that makes sense?
To be honest i really don't think baby is going to turn anytime soon as he/she is clearly quite comfy where it is but i do hope it will do a flip soon guess i'll just have to wait and see!

Best of luck.

If it was me again I'd go for ECV if he hadn't moved after 38 or 39 weeks.

But you are not me, so don't neccessarily take my advice! I give birth fairly easily compared to my friends' experiences.
