Hi I'm 28 weeks and after midwife appt this week noticed she has put 4/5 in the engaged column. I'm sure she means 4/5 palpable but its freaked me slightly - anybody got any stories that will convince me I am not going to go into labour next week!

I'm sure if it was anything to worry about she would have told me (although I am surprised she didn't mention it). Having said that everything has been alot more relaxed this time (2nd preg)

Give her a ring and ask her. Don't forget though that for second babies, they can go in and out like a yo-yo!

ds was head down from 6 weeks prior (and partialy engaged, from the feel of things i thought I'd go early.)) and still went 10 days over.

this one seems to be head down and partially engaged (by the feel of things, theres a certain discomfort to the cervix that i seem to remember from last time..) now at 8 weeks prior. doesn't mean its going to pop out any time soon. though living with that 'head against lady parts' feeling for another 8 weeks isn't going to be fun!

I was 3/5 at 32 weeks. Then head free at 36 weeks. 8 hours before she was born (at 38 weeks) I was 3/5. I think they can change constantly.
For peace of mind I'd ring and ask...

Don't forget, in mw-speak 4/5 means only 1/5 engaged (you are right, 4/5 palpable). It's if you read 1/5 you have to pack your bags!

thank you all - after not even looking at my notes since the appointment, a conversation with a friend prompted me to have a look and seeing 4/5 got me v worried (well it is late...) and this is what I wanted to hear! I didn't know that second babies can go in and out

blimey 3/5 at 32 weeks FCM I woudl have been beside myself!

Thinking about it I have felt a little extra pressure recently but just thought it was one of those pregnancy niggles. On a positive note, she is head down so that's good (can they turn round at this stage I wonder?)

Thanks all for your posts, I will give midwife a call.
