Flutters? What were your baby's 1st movements really like?

just wondering if everyone agrees on the much-used descriptions of 'flutters' or 'popping bubbles' as accurate descriptions of the first sensations of movement.

I would just say similar to a bit of moving wind!!!! When you have had the baby and are no longer pg i sometimes find it VERY remeniscent of early babby kicks! I have heared others agree!

No. I never felt flutters or bubbles. I definatley knew when dd kicked me but saying that it might just be me not being able to tell the difference between kicks and my stomach rumbling!

oh yes! maybe not popping bubbles, but flutters, or butterflies, but stronger than that.

isnt it so difficult to describe?

teuch, are you pg? how many weeks?

getting all broody now for that lovely feeling

sigh

I always used to think it was like a tiny drop of water that runs down the curvy bit of the inside of the bath, stopping for a bit and then carrying on, stopping...

I remember getting really good in the rib kicks at 20 weeks. When I went for my scan dd kicked me and I jumped on bed while the woman was trying to scan me!

Teuch - my advice is this - put some jeans on that are a little tight around the tummy ( just a wee bit unconfortable) then sit for hours on mumsnet ( at a desk slightly leaning forward!) thats when I feel mine!!

I have been getting a twitchy sensation...very similar to the kind of twitch you get around your eye, but way inside...

...but i htink it might just be wishful thinking

best description I heard was in the fab MN pg book - like a goldfish swimming around inside you .

Although come to think of it, it did sometimes feel like a twitch, esp early on.

you can't feel much at 15 weeks (or at least I couldn't) - it doesn't feel like a kicking baby for another month or so.

How exciting!!

Can you tell I am trying hard at the convincing thing?

just a few days ago I was all agog over some 'popping bubbles' until they popped right out in the form of a loud fart...

told you I was impatient...

I first felt ds (my first) just after I'd had to give a scary presentation (explaining their own new pension system to some actuaries!), so he was probably reacting to lots of adrenaline zipping around inside me. It felt like ... imagine a millpond, all completely motionless and mirrorlike - then something like a huge fish just bips the surface and is gone again.

As I was of course having butterflies (from the presentation) at the same time, I can say it felt different. Bigger. Left ripples.

Music, and the car, also used to make him wriggle.

Think I felt dd (my second, rather soon after ds) much earlier and less noticeably.

put headphones over your bump and play Rod Stewart loudly - that did the trick for my dd's

Flutters describes it perfectly for me, it's as if you are being tickled from the inside IYSWIM. With 1st baby I didn't realise till 20 weeks when he was definitely kicking me (as well as `fluttering') though. Second time around I realised much earlier (12 weeks) because I recognised the feeling.

And after no.1 was born I occasionally thought I could feel him and then remembered I'd had him, so I realised it must have been wind!! (can you tell I was a bit tired at that time?). So it can feel like wind too!

nailpolish, I just assumed it was wind - but then I had a lot of wind after I had him (must have been the lactulose).
