Pregnancy

Shakiness

I'm about 6 weeks pregnant and have been having a lot of shaky spells. I have been pregnant a few times before and although I've felt shaky during those pregnancies I have usually felt better once I've eaten something but this time it just seems to carry on for hours even after I've eaten.

I'm not really visibly shaking but I feel very quivery and my legs feel like jelly.

Surely if it's a blood sugar issue then it would calm down after eating. My blood pressure was normal when I went to the doctors a couple of weeks ago too so I don't think it's that. Although, of course that may have changed since then.

Any ideas?

Your blood pressure could be more variable now, e.g. dropping when you stand up.

Could you be getting a bit dehydrated? I find that low blood sugar and dehydration often lead to low blood pressure for me.

Could it be anxiety? Does this happen at any time when you aren't pregnant?

I don't think it's to do with anxiety. I am anxious, it's true. This is my 5th pregnancy (no baby yet). But I've not felt like this when I've been at my most anxious - ie. coming up to my first early scan last week - and I have been feeling reasonably relaxed over the last week having seen the heart beat.

It's possible that I may be a little dehydrated. I try to drink regularly but I've been out and about quite a bit over the weekend and trying to keep a balance between not being thirsty and not needing to constantly wee!

I used to have low blood pressure back in the olden days when I was a skinny young thing (those were the days!) so I know what low blood pressure feels like. I don't get any blackness or feint feeling when I get up too quickly or after a bath so I don't think it's that either. Hmmm, maybe I'll keep an eye over the next week and if it's not any better I'll go to the doctors and quiz him.

Hi Havingkittens I've been the same. I've also been very nauseous and get terrible low blood sugar symptoms even in the middle of the night.

I often feel shaky and in desperate need of food/drink. I find fresh orange and some carb (bread etc) can stop me feeling so sick and dizzy but the shaky feeling can often carry on for a while. I think the trick is to eat before you get hungry so your blood sugar doesn't drop. A friend of mine who had similar symptoms during the menopause, told me to eat small amounts every two hours to prevent these spells. It does help but I still feel rubbish.

Some days I feel shaky all day. This is my first baby but I think it can be fairly normal according to a few of my friends who also had slightly difficult pregnancies. I suppose each pregnancy is different so this one might just be a wobbly one for you? Pants isn't it!?
