Thrush and pessaries - nice lunch time chat

Went to the GP yesterday as suspected thrush - won't go into the details as it is nearly lunchtime - was prescribed Clotrimazole externally and using a pessary. I'm 15 weeks with my first and all a bit about everything. The doc said using the pessary is fine but checking the net seems to throw different suggestions - I'm really looking for advice on whether or not you used the pessary during early second trimester and if you had any problems. I know I should trust the GP but really just want to hear from people who are or have been in the same boat. Thanks.

i used the pessarys loads of times in both my pregnancies at varying stages and had no problems, they were all prescribed by either GP of midwifes at the hosp.

I was prescribed and used them during my last pregnancy with no problems.

I went to the doctors the other day for thrush and was prescribed pessaey. The doctor suggested I don't use the applicantor and instead just use a finger and do it like a tampon (non applicantor one obviously!). I think she said the applicator is fine but can be easier with bump to just use clean finger. My mum and sister both said they had thrush loads in pregannce and always used pessaries with no probs.

I have had conflicting advice doctor said it was fine to use. but when i went to the chemist they said oh no you cant use pessarys. I was under 12 weeks preg tho. I was really unsure what to do then. So in the end decided to use natural live yoghurt instead ( i no some people say its an old wives tale) but it worked for me. i ate 1 pot each day and rubbed some on infected area ( bit mess and weird) but 2 days later and it was gone. Maybe worth giving it a try?

its not the pessary itself thats the problem it's the applicator. you can push it to far up and scratch the cervix with the hard plastic.
but if you don't use the applicator and just use a finger then you may not push it up high enough and then not treat all the infection.

Thanks for the advice everyone. I think I may opt for the finger method, better it not work then go poking around with foreign objects and making an even bigger mess. At least I can feel ok knowing that lots have had to deal with it with no problems.
