hi hope everyones feeling ok today

i stopped taking folic acid when i was 12 weeks im now 15 weeks, and have not taken anything else as my doctor said all i really needed was the folic acid,

starting to feel a bit guilty though that im not taking pregnacare or anything like that, i think i might start them now but do you think that will be ok to just start them suddenly?

also a bit worried my morning sickness is still here......maybe some more vitiamin things will help

thanks for any advice xxxx

I took pregnacare throughout my pg, and also MumOmega, a blend of omega 3 and omega 6 fatty acids. Very good for making sure the foetus had the right amount for proper brain development, as my diet isn't always as good as it could be.

If your diet is really good then you probably don't need the vitamin supplements but if you are not eating too well then I would think they would be a good thing to continue with.

Iron is something that is very important to have enough of - it is easy to get anaemic in pg.

Just starting vitamins suddenly will be fine - no problem at all.

worth considering.

i had morning sickness all the way through with pg1 so diet was not what it could be and it looks like pg2 is going the same way

so i am taking the pregnancy multi-vits all the way through again because some days keeping anything other than toast down is a struggle and i'm sure a diet of toast is not what anybody would call balanced

Hi,
I stopped taking folic acid at 13wks both last pregnancy and this time as my MW told me it can make morning sickness worse (I have had hyperemesis both times... nice). Pregnacare or other pregnancy multi vitamins will all have folic acid in them. So you might want to look into taking a non-pregnancy multi vit instead (but obviously check with pharmacist that whatever you're choosing is ok in pregnancy).
Sorry u are still puking it's crap isn't it?

hmm yeah thats a thought about the folic acid but ive not had it now for 3 weeks and im still ill, so im hoping it wont make it worse if i start taking pills again xx

You don't need anything apart from folic acid unless you have a specific deficiency - like anaemia. If you feel better taking them fine but it's just a waste of money. Your body stores nutrients for weeks and months. Non-pregnancy multi-vits are advised against because of high concentrations of vitamin A so definitely avoid them.

Folic acid just for first trimester that is.

You can take them just every other day of course if you find them making you feel more sick. That's what my midwife suggested. Apparently the iron can also make you more sick, but on the other hand a deficiency in some of the (B?) vitamins or minerals can make you more sick, so they can help with that. They're really just a nutritional safety net I think, but I feel better knowing I'm getting enough of everything on those days I can't keep food down. I take them with a bit of yogurt to line the tum - does seem to help.

this suggests it might be helpful in early preg

it's interesting that they can potentially make you more sick i had never heard that.

i've discovered the potette potty bags are pretty good sick bags (if somewhat expensive) in an emergency. nearly got my head knocked off by a truck the other day jumping out of the car to be sick .

as for being glam at least this time round i won't have to wear the tent of a work uniform i had to wear with dd

well, this morning the midwife kindly referred to my baby as a "parasite"

as in meaning it will take all the nutrients etc it needs from me, it will find them from somewhere so not too worry too much if i feel its not getting enough because of the sickness etc,

sooo, bit less worried but i still bought the pregnacare anyway...see how it goes
