Hi all!

Just wanted to ask if anyone has tried hypnotherapy for insomnia as I have an appointment tmw. It's rather expensive but I am just so desperate to sleep as had to come off sleeping tabs when pregnant. I have been treated for insomnia for years and I've tried pretty much everything over the years. Hoping this might finally be the solution for me.

Hi. I understand completely what you're going through. I have had insomnia for as long as I can remember and although I have avoided prescription sleeping tablets, I've been taking heavy doses of herbal sleeping tablets (containing valerian, hops, etc) for years. I am 13+6 and as soon as I realised I was pregnant I stopped taking them.
I have had a couple of hypnotherapy sessions for sleep in the past and I have to say that although they weren't a miracle cure they certainly helped. The hypnotherapist talked through my reasons for lack of sleep and gave me some relaxation techniques, which did work for a while. If I could afford it I would see him every few months but I'm saving my pennies at the moment. Definitely got for it - you have absolutely nothing to lose! In the meantime, try Bach Rescue Night(Superdrug/ Holland and Barrett) - again, not a miracle cure but it does help to relax before going to bed. Good luck! Please let me know how you get on xx

Interested to know how you've got on. I'm a quite bad sleeper though have never had insomnia bad enough to be treated, save for a period of about a month before Christmas. But I have suffered really badly from it this pregnancy, and have actually had sleeping tablets from the dr (though they haven't helped much). I've started using a natal hypnotherapy CD at night and while I still woke up last night about 4 times I actually felt more human than I have for 3 months!

Hey all.

Well, from my first session I can already report improvement. The first session was 1 1/2 hrs. Talked about my sleep problems (go back a long time) and then her method. She basically talked me through relaxation whilst I laid on a reclining chair and then she talked me through visualizing a garden going down steps etc. I felt very relaxed, in a deep trance I'd say.The she gave me cds one for day and one for night to practice with. So, for the last two nights I have listened at bedtime and sure enough I manage to nod off! Now, I don't sleep super deeply all night but with my track record this really is a big deal for me. She said the key is practice so I will let you all know how I get on over the weeks. My next appointment is 2 wks away. The session cost £40. This was the low-income cost (normally £60). I suggest always searching out someone who offers this. I am in Brighton so if anyone is near here, just let me know and I'll pass on the link.

I will keep you all posted!
xx
