Hair dye yes or no?

I used to dye my hair regularly but I have fallen behind and well I look a wreck tbh.
Want to make an appointment asap for cut and colour, will be all over with blocks of colour.

Has anyone else had it done whilst they were pregnant, and is there a specific type of dye I shouldn't use (presume hairdresser will know all this, but thought I would ask), if I can't get is dyed will have to shave it off I think

I've just found out I'm pregnant and am sprouting alot of grey! I will be completely grey by the end of the pregnancy if I leave it! I'd heard that you can dye it occasionally but the colour may be slightly different because of your hormonal changes!

It can't look any worse than mine does at the moment . I know my old hairdresser did hers, and dyed lots of others when she was pregnant so I am guessing it will be fine. Will double check when I phone to make appointment.

I spoke to my h/d about dying during pg, and she said it was fine.

I use semi perm anyway, and she was happy with that

It's permanent waving (perms) that's a definite no-no when pg

I have highlights which both hair stylist and midwife agreed were fine. I waited til I was past 12 weeks pg though -about 14 weeks I think- -out of paranoia rahter than science! I did look a bit of a state by then and then felt much better for having had it done.

Ensure you patch test 24 to 48 hours before every application of colour during pregnancy as you may become sensitive or allergic.

Pop into your salon a day or two before and request they do one.
I did hairdressing at college last year and am aware some salons can be a little lazy on health and safety things like that (odds are in their favour that nothing will happen)even though it will invaildate their insurance and therefore make it difficult to sue if you had a reaction - odds are very very small!

If you have bleach highlights no patch test required as people aren't allergic to peroxide.

Also as Nancy10 said your colour may not take as well as usual as sometimes hair becomes more resistant to the colour when pregnant.

As long as you can stand the smell of colouring your hair you can do it as normal except just do the extra patch tests!!

I had my hair highlighted today. I had about 3 inches of re-growth and looked rough.

I am now nicely blonde again and feel much happier. I think you still need to take care of your appearance while pregnant or you don't feel very good about yourself.

Most dyes these days are loads better than ten years ago, and are far safer. You are right to ask your hairdresser as they should be able to advise - and if they look blank, then perhaps you need to go to a different hairdresser.

The only problem for me today was trying not to retch as the smell of the dye colour was so strong. Not easy, I had to do some serious deep breathing.

I dont dye my hair but do get my eyelashes tinted regularly. I dont do it when I am pregnant and just put up with looking hellish

There is a strong link with dye and bladder cancer. My granny died of bladder cancer. She worked in a dye factory. I therefore get paranoid of genetic link. I am happy to take the risk for my own vanity but just cant risk it for the baby.....

However, modern dyes may be different, the risk to the baby may be minimal etc.

I have highlights. Apparently modern hair dyes/ bleaches used in the UK are safe but you should tell your hairdresser as your hair may become more porous so the colour will "take" more quickly. Unless you want to resemble Lady gaga it's wise to flag it.

Also, I am toning my highlights down with low lights so the regrowth isnt as obvious in preparation for the time after the borth when i know that the hairdresser and I will be distant strangers.
