when you found out you were pregnant did you tell your other half on the same day? It might sound odd and I want to tell him but I also feel like I want to keep it to myself for a day or two. Maybe so it can sink in.

Also, when does one go for ones first scan?

Must buy a baby book.....

My DH told me that I was... apparently being v crabby and going off smoking was a huge giveaway. Told me if I didn't do a test that day then he would, well I don't know what. But he was right outside the bathroom door asking me 'is there a line yet? is there a line yet?'

I don't think I could have kept it from him anyway.

About 12 or so weeks for first scan.

I didn't tell him when I did the first test and couldn't tell if there was a line or not.

I didn't tell him the next day when I took another test and thought there was probably a line but wasn't sure.

On the 3rd day I took a digital test and the result was clear. I threw it away and planned to break the news to him that evening, in the pub, when he would be relaxed (I was trying to conceive, he wasn't trying not so IYSWIM). Instead, I managed to leave enough wrapper from the test on the edge of the sink that he guessed what it was and we had a shell-shocked conversation in the early hours of the morning, and then had to go straight to work!

I went to the doctors that day to register the fact that I was pregnant, and was told to book an appointment for the 8-week mark with the midwife. 1st scan was then at about 13 weeks.

As for a book, I can thoroughly recommend Your Pregnancy Week By Week, by Lesley Regan. Written by a Prof of obsetctrics who has given birth herself.

Firstly, congratulation!

my DH and I were ttc for nearly 2 years so I couldn't wait to tell him as soon as I found out! However, I can see why you might want to take a couple of days to let it sink in with you first - I can't see any reason why not.

In my area, the first scan is between 10-14 weeks (mine was at around 13 weeks).

I'm 37 weeks and the only baby book I've read is the Mumsnet one on pregnancy. I liked it because it wasn't too serious and actually made me laugh out loud in places. That, and it was the only decent one available at the local library...

My partner knew I thought I might be from the moment my period was late, he got the pregnancy tests, and they both came up positive.

I feel shakey! sort of nervous. I think my husband will be very pleased but also very scared as it is now a reality! I think my due date is Nov 19th. Not sure how many weeks along that makes me (what a novice I am!)

DH knew when AF was due, and looked after the tests so I could waste any too early!!!!

He gave me one on the day after AF was due and stood outside the bathroom door while I POAS!

BTW lots of hospital let you self refer via their website/email so might not be any need to go to GP.
