Pregnancy

Pregnancy downgraded from high risk to low risk at 30 weeks...so NOW can I have my homebirth??

This is my 3rd pregnancy, and I have anti-e antibodies. This was at a high level, and I was told I'd have to be induced early, and the pregnancy was classed as high risk.

I've had a phonecall today to say that the levels have fallen (yay!) and I've been reclassified as low risk. I was told I'd still have to give birth at the consultant led unit rather than the smaller local hospital as a matter of routine, because I started off as high risk. Of course, I was so relieved I accepted what they were telling me without argument.

BUT, this is to be my last child, and I want a homebirth. I was too nervous with my first, desperately wanted one with my second but couldn't in the end because of the anti-e.
I hadn't considered asking this time, because of the anti-e, but now it's fallen and they tell me they're not worried.

Can anyone with experience advise me whether its worth trying to get a home birth? Am I simply too late?

I know where I've worked if you arre 'downgraded' then that is what you are - low risk - and in theoryyou should be 'allowed' your homebirth.

phone the supervisor of midwives and get assertive.

Thanks for the quick reply, EG.
I don't want to get too stroppy, the antenatal care I've had has been great, but I'd love a homebirth if it's safe.

I know they have to take a blood sample from baby at birth, could this be done at home?

I also have gestational diabetes...but it is completely under control and baby's growth is normal.

Am I pushing my luck?

ah. the GD may be a push too far.

saying that though it's worth a try.

Thanks for the replies EG. I think I'll talk it over with my midwife.

I'm lucky, the antenatal clinic are absolutely lovely and helpful, and I've given birth at the same hospital twice before, and been happy with the care I recieved. So I'm not dreading it. But a homebirth is just something I've always wanted!

Can the blood sample be from the cord blood or does it have to be from the baby? If its from the baby you might be pushing it as the midwifes may not be able to take blood from baby.

re: too late - I asked and they said to discuss it at 34 weeks. I am 31 weeks now.
