Anyone out there got one?
I am soo pleased and delighted at 9 weeks a lovely heartbeat to allay my worries and stop some of those mad dash to the loo to check- moments. So wish I had dont this with other pregnancies... any one in agreement!

How much did you pay, if you dont mind me asking.

Report
Mamatoto · 06/07/2005 12:38

It was 73 pounds but on the advice of other mumsnetters I bought it rather than renting as I will then be able to re-sell it on ebay.

Just to go on about it a bit more....i am a real worrier and for women like me ( had missed m/c last time too) this must lower stress levels and stop me feeling doom and gloom. Dont you agree?

Like Nemo i am a doppler fan, ues it once a day. I m/c last year and the worry i had in the early weeks was horrible. I can now listen to buba when i need the reasurance.
My sister is also PG and she uses it to, she finds it great and she is on no4.

I'm feeling tempted again Mamatoto! Especially as you and Horseshoe (on Jan thread) have found heartbeat earlier than the recommended 10 weeks, and I'll be 10 wks on Friday. Might just have a look at some later. Where did you get yours from?

Report
teuch · 06/07/2005 14:38

I am very nearly getting one...I am over 10wks now, is that the recommended time for trying?

Report
horseshoe · 06/07/2005 14:52

Yes Teuch...I could hear from under 9 weeks.

Report
horseshoe · 06/07/2005 14:54

Just a bit of advice....

The heartbeat is much much much lower down that I ever expected it to be.....I'm talking pubic bone...inch and a half above your noonie low down.....

I would really like to try one before buying...

I have a docs appt tomorrow, i might see if they will 'dopple' me...

Anyone in the Edinburgh/West Lothian area want to do a demonstration?

Sorry nowhere near you but if you go on www.mybump.co.uk you can listen to examples of what you should be able to hear at 10 weeks.

Girls I got mine from ebay 'dopplermike' he was recommended to me by nemo777 another mumsnetter. The delivery was next day and customer service excellent. I have been on mine half the day - a bit hit and miss but I am only nine weeks ( me and dh both cant help smiling when we hear it!)

Mamatoto, are you checking Low down enough??

The reason I'm saying is cause when I first searched...I was too high up and thought every now and then I could hear it (like a couple of beats here and there) However turned out heartbeat much lower down in pubic region and I found a constant heartbeat at under 9 weeks there.

Sorry if i am jumping the gun...

I also brought a doppler from "dopplermike" of ebay and it is fab, really puts my ind at ease as i also had a mc.
I thought i had found the heart beat as it was 146 beats, but when i went to c the midwife she told e i had been listening to my own lol. I have now found the babys haertbeat and it is just above the pubic bone so very low down the beat is 166 beats and you can really tell the difference as it is a lot faster than your own. The idwide told me not to worry if you can't find it, its just at this stage (11 weeks) the baby hides behind the pubic bone.

I really recommend them and i also recommend buying ot off ebay as somone else has said you can re-sell it when you have finished with it and ake your money back.

as horseshoes says if u are early on then i would recommend being right on the pubic bone to find heartbeat. Also sometimes a good indicator is u can hear a whooshing like a gale in ur tum and thats the placenta so you should find heartbeat around there most of the time.

Doppler is definitely a welcome innovation!

I hired one through www.baby-beats.co.uk and if you want to hire it for x amount of months it automatically becomes yours to keep.
I have used it a few times since it arrived and it is an absolute peace of mind!
The first few times we used the doppler we found the heartbeat in the same place, but last night we had to look everywhere and it seemed like he/she was moving a lot at the time
Would definitely recommend a doppler to any PG woman!
