sharp pain on right of abdomen, 12 wks...

Hi all, yesterday during the day I began to get a dull on/off ache about half way between my sticky out hip bone and belly button. Last night it was quite painful and woke me up a few times. Today it's still there, a dull ache most of the time and occasional sharp pains. (I've had my appendix removed already)

Do I need to worry? Have my scan on Monday, have checked the heartbeat on a doppler and all is fine...??

Have you already had a scan to check the baby is in the right place? Personally would go to an early pregnancy unit at a local hospital to confirm its not an ectopic pregnancy (disclaimer am not a medical person but a friend had an ectopic pregnancy so thats why it sprung to mind). Good luck hope it turns out to be nothing x

Thanks for the reply. I did think about an ectopic but the doppler is picking up a heartbeat in the centre of my stomach and has done to either side before so I'm pretty sure the baby is moving about and in the right place. Also, I'd have thought it would have showed earlier than 12 weeks if it was ectopic. Just have to wait I guess, don't want to rush off to the docs if it could be wind or something

I had my appendix out in November 08 and when I was 10weeks I got horrible pains around my scar. I went for a scan and they said it was the growing uterus pushing on the scar tissue. Am now nearly 23weeks and all is fine. So could def be that as you've had your appendix out too?

I'm 12 weeks (baby in right place as have had scan) and have been have the exact same type of pains.

Apprently it's pretty common and I know mine have taken my breath away once of twice, generally if I turn a little awkwardly in bed.

first1, could be that, or perhaps pushing on c-section scar? Last birth was a c-section.

JJ, just phoned the on-call midwife and she says it could be ligaments stretching or constipation, sorry for tmi! Just concerned that it's been for the best part of 2 days now, but scan on Monday so fingers crossed all is well

I had this and it turned out to be a cyst and nothing to worry about. seemed to stop after a few weeks, but the cyst was still there at 20 week scan

or ligament stretching, of course. that can hurt quite bit

still there, looks like another sleepless night despite taking a paracetamol (against my belief of taking medicines whilst preg)

I have no idea why but I do get this from time to time in my pgs.

I tend to get them in early/mid pg and they [the pains] can be pretty bad.

I hope you feel better soon.

I had this mostly on my left side from about 10 weeks. My midwife was very blase and just said 'ligaments'. Should I be worried etc, no answer silly mare but she is awesome in every other way. Unfortunately the pain has not gone away and gets worse if I walk, laugh, sneeze or sometimes stretch. I am now 29 weeks and don't think it will get better.

Sorry.

Hi, I think you should get checked out.I had very similar to this last weekend. It was as you described it on Friday night - the pain woke me up,I had to rock on hands and knees a bit but kind of subsided. On Sunday it was there but not agonising.
On Monday morning I woke up at 5am in the worst agony of my life. Turned out to be a twisted ovarian cyst.
I had to have my ovary, fallopian tube and cyst removed and am now waiting to find out if the baby will survive without the progesterone that ovary provided.
If I'd gone to A&E on saturday I would have kept my ovary (I instead called NHS direct who told me it was nothing to worry about).
If you have a minor injuries unit go there. I'm sure you're probably fine, but don't make my mistake of thinking it must be normal.

Hi, thank you for your replies. Been for the 12 week scan today and thankfully all is well . Can't believe that pregnancy can be that uncomfortable!
