Frankfurters cause childhood brain tumours?! Really?

Perhaps someone somewhere found a link - without seeing a research paper it is impossible to tell. Wouldnt Germany have a really high level of brain tumours then?

If the risk was there we would be told about it. Rules in the UK are particularly numerous and strict and take into account the mildest risk of things so I am sure we would know about it.

Even if it was the case then it would only be a risk and I would bet money on it being a miniscule risk.

Post a link to where you found the information and we can have a look? I really wouldnt worry about this

But that letter says the opposite. It says that whilst the hypothesis that nitrites in cured meats are linked to brain tumours none of the currently available data supports a link. They criticise studies which suggest increased risk because they have failed to control adequately for other risk factors such as maternal smoking, or are flawed because they rely on self-reporting by women of what they ate in pregnancy (perhaps many years earlier) which may be inaccurate. They also point out that nitrite levels in hotdogs are much lower than they used to be.

The ref is from 2001 so there may be more recent conclusive data, but the ref you give certainly shouldn't give you any cause for alarm.

oops 2nd sentence should read: 'whilst the hypothesis that nitrites in cured meats are linked to brain tumours is plausible...'
