I know how scary this can be, but apparently it is fairly common. I had bleeding around 12 weeks, but not as bad as yours sounds. Apparently it can be caused by a small seperation of the placenta from the uterus wall (or a small tear in the uterus wall), neither of which are harmful to the baby.

Of course, some women do miscarry, so it is a worry. I understand that it is more usual for miscarraige to be accompanied by pain and clots, so its good that you have neither.

I was really worried when this happened to me, so I paid for an ultrasound scan just to make sure that the baby was still there and the heart beating. If you aren't able to do this, then unfortunately there is not much you can do for reassurance.

Not sure what else you expected from the hospital. Has your bleeding stopped?

Sometimes bed rest is recommended. But some people think that bed rest does not help. I didn't want to move around too much when I bled and just took it easy for a couple of days. As I understand it, there is nothing that the doctors can really do about bleeding (as frustrating as that is). Perhaps the best thing for you and your baby is to try and get some sleep if you can.

Good luck. I hope all goes well.

Maybe a mw or someone with more experience will post here for you soon.

Bonkerz
I'm not knowledgeable but I am awake and at computer. Must be very scary - but I know there have been lots of messages here about bleeding in pregnancy and lots of birth announcements a few months later.

If it is a urine infection, does that mean the bleeding was vaginal or in the urine? Because a little bit of blood can go a long way diluted. Soft belly is good becaue the uterus isn't reacting?

I have a doppler and at 4.30 this morning my baby had a heartbeat but am now too scared to check. Bleeding hasnt got any worse but hasnt stopped either. I had a scan on friday and all was great and even listened to baby last night and was moving around with a strong heartbeat but should i push for a scan or sit it out?

Does it feel like either of your 2 miscarriages? Do you know what caused those? Because this time you know you have a urine infection - I can see why you are terrified but it may well NOT be a mis.

Report
KiwiKate · 30/06/2005 06:49

I agree with Copper. At least this time you know there is some other cause for the bleeding. It is terribly worrying, and as much as people told me not to worry I could not help it!
One reassuring this is that mis is much less likely after 12 weeks.

i know and thankyou both. There has never been an explanation as why i had the last 2 miscarriages although with the first (july 2004) i did also have an infection which isnt helping i suppose. The last one was in jan and was a missed miscarriage. am gonna lay down for abit, doesnt look like there is any new blood but have niggly pain at tops of my legs but that could be paranoia i suppose.

Oh Bonkerz - really feel for you as I've been there myself so recently. Is there another hospital near you? Can you try EPU there - cry on the phone if you have too - and tell them that you can't get through to your local one (they may not even ask). Or just go to a different A&E?

I think you're not far from me Bonkerz - there are a few local private scan places, if you really can't get any joy from the NHS - Fetal Imaging Centre in Leamington , and MUMS in Knowle (Solihull) . The Leamington one is about £40 for a straightforwards scan IIRC - might be worth it for peace of mind if you can't one any other way.

Bonkerz I had a heavy bright red bleed whilst pregnant with my dd at 16 weeks i feared the worst but scan showed she was fine, They werent sure what caused the bleed but said it may just have been a graze to my cervix or placenta. Anyway i have a 2.2 year old dd who proves that not all heavy bleeds mean the worst. I hope your result is good.

Bonkerz, just read thruogh this, and hope everything is Ok with you. I had exactly the same thing a couple of weeks ago (due to a urine infection), and so far everything is going OK (fingers crossed).

I would definitely push at any time you are worried for the hopsital to do a scan - it just helps to give you some answers. I know some aren't happy to do this though (mine were not!).

Fingers crossed for you, and sending (((hugs))) your way... I'm now 13+4, so we are at the same stage.

Oh petal - I have every thing crossed for you, and hoping my boss hasn't noticed that my eyes are welling up.

I lost a baby at 10 weeks - but many of my freinds bleed through their pregnancies and had healthy babies.

Take care
