Pregnancy

5 weeks and bleeding

Hi, I'm 5wk+5 and for the last week have been spotting, with occasional cramps. This may be TMI but, most of the spotting is brown but also sometimes bright red, with tiny tiny clots. It also gets worse when I have BM (TMI- sorry!!)

I had a TV scan last Monday which showed a gestational sac measuring (mGS - am guessing this means mean gestational sac??) 4mm, but no other structures were present ?? too early?? There was also free fluid in the uters ?? implantation bleed - but I think this would have been too late by my calculations.

Am being re-scanned on Thursday, which is still 3 days away and am really worried that I'm miscarrying or have a blighted ovum etc.

Has anyone else had similar experiences?? I would really love to hear from anyone.

Thanks,
Amy x

Hello,

Not sure what is causing bleeding but if the MGS is 4mm then it could be that your dates are wrong. Taken from Baby2See.com:

Gestational Sac:
The first element to be measurable is the gestation sac of the early pregnancy. The gestational sac is measured in three dimensions, and the average, the Mean Sac Diameter (MSD) used for estimating gestational age. It is useful between 5 and 8 menstrual weeks with accuracy of +/- 3 days . As a rough rule of thumb, the MSD + 30 = Menstrual Age in days.

By my calculations this would mean you are 34 days into your pregnancy so the bleeding would tie in with an implantation bleed. Is there any chance that you are wrong about dates?

At this point all you can do is keep an eye on the bleeding, and I know they say it makes no difference but try to rest as much as possible.

Thinking of you.

Hi Fingerscrossed,

I am going through exactly the same thing at the moment. I am 5+2. I have had two miscarriages and an ectopic in the past so I'm very worried that I am losing this pregnancy.

I have a doctor's appointment tomorrow so I'm hoping she'll refer me to the EPU.

I'm afraid for me bleeding in pregnancy has always been a bad sign. However my friend bled loads in the first 14 weeks. Bright red and soaking through pads and underwear - she now has a gorgeous three year old who is absolutely fine. So bleeding doesn't always mean things are going wrong.

Reading Allstarsprincesses's post then you would seem to be have been measuring exactly the right size for dates as you would have been 4+5 when they scanned you. I'm amazed they scanned you that early. My old EPU wouldn't scan until 7 weeks (or 6 weeks if previous ectopic)

I hope things go well on Thursday. Let us know how you get on.

Thanks Lubyloo.

Am sorry about your previous sad times. Fingers crossed that 3rd time lucky.

I only got scanned that early as I thought I was 6+4 already - LMP was 5th Nov, but going by early scan and thinking back to conception(!!) I realise I was only 4+5 at the scan.

It is so rubbish isn't it? I've wanted this for so long, and now I have it and could lose it it is almost worse than not having it at all! And how different it is for everyone!

Good luck tomo with the EPU referral, let me know how you get on - we can be spotting-buddies!!

Lots of hugs and good luck vibes x

I was told by the EPU that my bleeding up to 11 weeks was 'implantation'. They thought it could go up to 16 weeks!!!

I also had cramping gp was convinced that I would mc.

Good luck to you both, horrible time dreading going to the toilet. FWIW my LO who caused the heartache is now 8 months old.

I also don't think that they can measure that accurately so early, I wasn't dated until after 7 weeks so I wouldn't worry too much about the dimensions. I had a scan and saw HB at 5+4, but most people seem to be much later than that.

That's interesting to hear Brettgirl. Will hope that it is just implantation bleeding that I am experiencing.

Went to the GPs this morning and she sent me to A&E. Had bloods done and urine test. Urine test came back positive (was worrying it might have turned negative!). They kept me waiting for three hours for blood results to come back and were talking about admitting me . Thankfully they decided that I could go home before blood results were back. I go back to have my HCG levels checked on Thursday and a scan on Monday. Wish I knew what the results were from today to get an idea if progesterone and HCG within normal levels.

Looks like I'm having another ectopic or miscarriage Got yesterday's results back and HCG is only 160. I'm back in the morning for another test. I'm hoping it has dropped and it is a miscarriage rather than another ectopic.

Amy, I had bleeding at 6 weeks and all went well. There was bleeding (red) and severe cramping. I went to A&E as it was a Sunday and took it easy for the next few days. Pregnancy went well and bleedign was never a problem again and I was fairly active (going for 40 min+ walks up to the night before giving birth). The dr I saw in A&E did say possibly implantation bleeding although the next day, my own GP was doom and gloom. Relax as much as possible and let things take their course.

Lubyloo, v.sorry to hear that. Take care.

Hi girls,

Sorry I've been quiet, had a rough few days. Bleeding and cramping got so bad, I think they were actually contractions as they were regular coming every 3 minutes.

Thanks for your kind words, unfortunately my little bean didn't make it. MC last night. Had a scan this morning that confirmed it.

Can't stop crying, but also trying to think everything happens for a reason; now there is one more star shining in the sky.

How are you doing Lubyloo? Did you get your bloods done today? I really hope it turns out ok for you ((hug))

Big hugs and Happy New Year!!
Am hoping 2010 brings us all good things.

So, so sorry to hear that Amy. Have been thinking about you today.

I hope you have got good support there. How are you feeling physically? Be gentle on yourself and take good care of yourself.

My HCG had gone up to 352 today. They are saying that is good as it has more than doubled and I may just be wrong with dates. However, I know that I am definitely not. My HCG doubled a few times with my ectopic.I have also started bleeding more tonight.

I go back on Saturday for another blood test and have a scan booked for first thing Monday morning along with more bloods. Hopefully will know then what is happening.

Hope 2010 proves to be a happier and more productive year!

I am 5wks after having a missed m/c in July this year. I just had a BM and noticed a lump of creamy jelly like d/c with a few tinges of pink/brown when I wiped. Sorry to be so graphic but I am really anxious about it - any ideas?

Thank you Lubyloo, my OH has taken time off work and is taking care of me. Don't feel up to seeing anyone else right now. Physically, I'm still in pain, but it is no-where near how bad it was before. Emotionally, still fragile, but feelin a little better than yesterday.

It really helps having you guys around and your support - for that I am sincerely grateful. Although he is wonderful , the OH does not really understand.

I will keep my fingers crossed for you and your blood test tomorrow, and will check in to see how your scan goes. I really hope you have happy news.

MrsSweeney - I am not sure, it could be normal - did you have intercourse in the last few days? sometimes leftover stuff makes it's way out!! As long as the bleeding doesn't get worse or you don't get cramps I would sit tight. Sorry can't be of more help.

So, I'll lurk around every now and then and hopefully catch up with you all with better news soon,

GOOD LUCK LUBYLOO!
