Waters broke at 25+2 weeks

Hi, When i was 25+2 weeks with identical twin boys my waters broke around twin 1 who is presenting. I'm now 28+5 and have had no tightenings at all or any signs of labour (she says touching wood. Twin 1 is still presenting. Both babies seem to be growing well according to scan (estimated weight this week was 2lbs 2) and i'm feeling good movements from both.

I've been let out of hospital for xmas only and have to report back tomorrow, but all being well will have day release more frequently now.

My question is this..... At first my consultant was just syting "if we get to 28 weeks it will be brilliant......but you are likely to go onto labour at any moment" now he doesn't seem to know what to do with me. I need some positive stories to keep me going. I'm determind that these boys are due in 2010....I just want to get to 32 weeks = to avoid babies being ventolated.

That's great you've got so far. Every day they stay in really helps.

My guess is they will just keep managing you til you go into labour. It is possible to carry on to 36 weeks like this but I guess not that common. Have you had the steroids already?

I too had a Prom - DD was eventually born at 33 weeks. There were several 28-29 weekers there in NICU at the same time and all did very well.

I've had steroids. When did your waters go? If you don't mind me asking.

Waters broke at 31 weeks and I held off labour for just over 2 weeks.

They seemed surprised that I went that long without going into labour actually so fits with what your consultant said.

Are you coping ok with being in hospital? Drove me nuts, I have to say, being on the antenatal ward and doing nothing. Was much better when they let me out and go home.

My waters broke at just over 30 weeks and I held out for another 8 and a half weeks. Labour was held off on two occasions with Jack Daniels and lots of liquids!

Waters do replenish, for some people it seems to seal up and continue well with the pregnancy. For others, as you know, labour follows soon after.

Doing well so far, must be worrying for you.

At 31 weeks they won't necessarily need ventilating, especially if they've had steroids. My eldest managed without for awhile and didn't have steroids. Each week they're in is fantastic and just getting into the 30s I think is good for you psychologically it took me a long time to realise I delivered at 7 months - like months later someone said they didn't know how many months 31 weeks is and I kind of had a moment as I realise how far gone I really was!
