Period-type pains at 38 weeks???

lolalotta · 11/12/2009 07:54

Hi, I am 38 weeks pregnant and for the past 24 hours have had continual discomfort in my lower back and front... it feels like period pains. Is this commom in the last few weeks or does it mean labour might not be too far away??? The pain actually woke me up last night and is still here this morning. The "whenis it going to happen" is starting to drive me a bit crazy!!!
Any thoughts would be appreciated... thanks!

LoveBeingAMummy thanks for your reply! How long was it until things kicked off true-labour style for you after the period-type pains??? My lower back just seems to be continually aching right now... no contractions yet, lol!!!

My labour with first DD started like this. It was combined with strong tightenings then it just gradually got more painful and stronger tightenings and 6 hrs later DD1 popped out. As easy as that .

Good luck.

Well the sickness thing could be a sign. I was sick in labour with both DD's. DD2 it was much later, but with DD1 my body had a full clear out (TMI?) in the early stages.

Double labour thread?!!

Nigglewiggle, your last post made me laugh! No, nothing that exciting is happening yet, just been busy cleaning... just want things to be tidy just incase as we are planning a homebirth!
maybebaby23, This is my first so I haven't a clue what labour is going to be like either! TMI too, but I think my body is clearing itself out too! (well, as much as it can when I am taking iron tablets, lol!) I can't believe you were just sick, this really could be it for you!!! Hope you are ok!!!
Do you think feeling grumpy can be a sign of labour too, haha? I'm not feeling quite myself... maybe it was just having to do the cleaning. Oh and I have a headache too! Aches still coming and going, but still not sure if this is the start of things.
It's all so confusing!

Sounds like early labour to me.

They get gradually stronger and until you get to the push is kind of stays like very strong period cramps.

Good luck!

lolalotta, sounds like you are feeling the same as me. Im not quite myself today, feel quite distant and wierd. I was up late last night cleaning and tidying! Still feeling sick and still feeling the period type aches...ugh.

Will keep you updated! Hope something happens soon for you lolalotta!

if in any doubt or you have concerns call delivery suite where a midwife will ask more detailed questions and give advice. Take paracetamol and warm baths for discomfort it it doesnt help labour may be starting! good luck
