Rib pain at 26/27 weeks

Last night I was getting horrible pain under my ribs, on the left hand side. It hurt most when I tried to take a deep breath, quite a sharp pain. Is this the baby jamming its feet up there, or something else? It almost felt like I'd cracked a rib, but I haven't done anything that would have caused that. Is this something I can look forward to for the rest of the pregnancy, or just some weird temporary pain? Was fine by this morning.

its probably the babys feet, i had the same thing with mines head until he turned and now i have his bum under there, it will depend on the babys position but yea you can probably look forward to it for the rest of pregnancy, sorry!! it might have been trapped wind or something else though but u will feel stuff under ur ribs

I am so glad that someone else posted this! I thought I was the only one!

Sorry to hear you're in pain, but glad I'm not the odd one out!

I am 26wks 6 days and have that exact pain It's not quite my ribs, but more so at the top of my sternum, just between and below my boobs. Is very sore all the time, like a dull ache.

Is this your 1st baby? It's mine, so I'm still learning what to expect and what is 'normal'

I had that when I was pg. Was told by chiropractor that it was just a rib strain - I did it when I sneezed! It should go within a day or so.

Waves at TLC*
Yes, I'm a first-timer too. It's all very new and exciting and you're right, it can be hard to know what's "normal" (especially as "normal" seems to vary from person to person!)

True, true!

That's why mumsnet is so good at putting ones mind at ease.

I'm sure we'll be fine.

I've been having that type of pain for a couple of months, and it worse in the evenings. Now that I'm 39 weeks, I can identify the little foot as the culprit quite clearly. My baby seems to think ribs are footstools.

OMG! me too. im 27 weeks and the pain is a constant dull ache under my lowest right rib. today is has also moved into my back. again just under my ribs.

im thinking that the baby is the culprit as she does all her kicking to my right hand side. so glad im not the only one. as im starting to get fed up of it now!

i have spd too, so its just one more discomfort to add. glad it will all be worth it

I just anted to give you guys the heads up that if you have a rib pain that feels like indigestion, but isn't solved by antacids, and you have blurred vision, head aches or hot flushes, you should go and see you gp asap as pain under the ribs can be a sign of a complcation of pre eclampsia called HELLP which is quite seriuos.

Merci beaucoup Bonjour Mine only lasted a little while and has been fine since, and no other symptoms, but that's good info to bear in mind.

Why didn't my italics work?

I had this too - used to soothe it by holding ice cubes to the spot - which made ds temporarily move his foot away from the cold spot! However, am afraid relief was only ever temporary and I only recovered after he was born & the bruising went down.
