hi, am 27 weeks with dc3 and am getting really achy hips when sleeping. am lying on left side with pillow betwn legs (seems to help) then wake up a couple of hours later, really sore and bounce gently turn over to right side only to repeat process an hour or so later. what's going on? could spit fire with both of my previous pgs but other than that no other probs. am popping out to pick up dd from nursery but this has been going on for a 2 weeks now and is driving me demented. does anyone know what's happening.

I have the same thing, and have been diagnosed with SPD. Google it and have a chat with your midwife.

Sympathy, it's fecking awful and I am really, really struggling.

I have really sore hips too, and also did in my last pregnancy. The pain wakes me up every hour or so and I have to turn over, if I get out of bed I can barely walk and have to hobble to the loo holding onto the wall. My MW wasn't really interested and dismissed it as "one of those things" that happens when you're pregnant. I don't think it is SPD cos the pain is in my hips, not my pelvis.

I went to see my doctor about this as the pain is excruciating and was told to "take 2 paracetemol every 4 hours up to 6 times a day." Great. 1) It is worst when I wake up during the night and in the morning - will my DH have to use a straw to blow pills down my throat while I'm sleeping?! 2) "Take 2 paracetemol" is what you say to a hypochondriac who thinks that having somethign wrong wiht them makes them special is moaning for no particular reason.

Oops, rage = scrambled typing. something, with "special and is moaning"

knickers - so is either spd or one of those other "now now mum when baby comes it will resolve" mystery midwife illnesses. In any event have lots of nightly funny walks to loo to look forward to. Was hoping that i was one of those annoying woman who never really got anything too bad during pregnancy . have also sprouted some acne on my chin in last hour. Right am off cruise internet for one of those big pillows that wraps round you and leaves no room in bed for dh. May name it dave

Same thing here, had awful SPD last time, fine this time apart from the awful hips at night. I did see a physio last time but the only helpful advice I was given was about best positions for sex which was truly the last thing on my mind!!

just to add that I had something similar in my last pg and it wasn't SPD- I went to see a physio who said it was tight piriformis (run along the outsides of your hips) muscles. Gave me stretches to do and got DH to massage them for me. Really helped.
Can your midwife refer you to a physio?

thx for that. am at hospital next week so shall pop in and see the physio (can self refer in my area after 12 weeks)and ask for some exercises. had 2 pillows between knees last night and that helped although rather suspect between the pillows for hips, pillows for tummy, and pillows for back am slowly turning into a duvet-ed matterhorn.

I have this, only in my left hip though. I've been referred to a physio. I also get sharp pains in my groin.

I've found a hot water bottle really helps, as does a hot bath before bed.

With this I can drop off to sleep on my left but I usually end up aching by the morning. If I wake up early I lie on my right and put the hot water bottle on my left hip. Even though there's not much heat left in it, the weight alone seems to help.

Paracetomol did nothing for me.

I've found sitting on a ball at my desk helps, as does minimal walking about. Ante natal yoga, with all that hip movement also seems to help.
