prescribed buccastem for reflux during pregnancy- any GPs or pharmacists out there?

Been to see GP today as was prescribed buccastem to prevent me from vomiting after eating pretty much everything.

Problem is, she didn't listen to a word I was saying (took MiL with me who agreed)and diagnosed me with continued morning sickness before I had a chance to explain that it's more of a reflux problem.

Side effects look pretty horrific and worried about effects on baby (it's a small dose for me, but surely a bigger one for the baby) especially if it's not the right drug to be taking.

I also don't understand how reducing a feeling of nausea will stop me vomiting when it's not nausea as such - it's just that whatever I eat immediately comes back up. Maybe it is the right drug, but really don't feel that GP was diagnosing the problem I have, she just made an assumption and diagnosed what she wanted to diagnose.

Eaten almost nothing since seeing her today in an effort not to be sick but without taking the pills. I don't have as big a problem as those of you with hyper emesis (I'm fine if i don't eat) but in tears as I don't know how I am going to be able to function again.

I have suffered both hyperemesis and serious reflux in this pregnancy and you are right - they are very different. My doctor told me to take ranitidine - I take zantac, 1 every twelve hours. Also to gaviscon or rennie with it even if I dont have symptoms. Prop yourself up in bed with pillows and try to bend from the knees to avoid bring the acid higher and stay away from fruit juices, squashes, processed meats, white bread, milk and spicy foods.

i think i can get zantac over the counter so might try that tomorrow... Gaviscon doing nothing for me - but mye because i am taking during/after eating and not before.

already off the foods etc you've mentioned plus lots of others - very little left to eat other than carbs plus I can't eat gluten and gluten free breads are pretty processed (compared to yummy bakery made bread which i am craving but can't eat).

Buccastem is horrible and makes me feel even more nauseous (although I didn't vomit). I wouldn't use it if I were you.
