Jeans - over or under bump?

Hi I have been looking around for maternity jeans - am just starting to show with my second pregnancy (17 weeks). I was just wondering what the over the bump jeans are like as I only got a few of the under the bump jeans last time. I couldnt really even wear them for the last month or so,as they would fall down/or be really uncomfortable. I lived in jogging bottoms and large Tshirts but felt so scruffy. I want to try and be a bit smarter this time, so any hints on jeans or anything else much appreciated! thanks

I find the maternity jeans will always fall down, over bump or under. they are just too heavy. tho i think with maternity trousers over bump tends to be more comfortable. If you have good legs leggin-y type trousers would be good, otherwise light-weight stretchy trousers seem to the best.

over the bump are far better, i agree they do roll down etc but under the bump ones start cutting in under your bump and then you ditch them. I also found over the bump jeans great for breastfeeding after, as the stretchy material covered my big wobbly belly!

I hate maternity jeans. Im 5'2 and apparently people under 5'3 don't get pregnant!
So on top of yanking ill fitting jeans up all of the time and the fact they are all bloody baggy as if you suddenly want to be MC Hammer, Im also tripping up constantly with freyed jeans.
I have one pair of slim fit maternity jeans from last PG but they are a 10 and at nearly 30 weeks do not fit at all. I have bought a 2 pack of bump bands from H&M, one balck, one white, £12.99 and I kleepo the jeans un zipped and the bands keep them up. This might not be useful now while you are smaller but if you want to wear your under bump jeans again they are great. They might even help the heavy over bumps up.
Next had jeans yesterday with an over bump band and they were really light in the band trikken. Just don't bloody have petite grrrr.

I'm still wearing my normal jeans done up below the bump and belted as necessary (33 weeks). I use bump bands when it's draughty or itchy- 3 pack from New Look for a tenner- bargain I can't recommend highly enough.

I am 36 weeks with my second and I'm afraid I haven't yet found a solution, apart from wearing a dress, I'm afraid.

I wore over the bump jeans ones that had adjustable elsastic at the back and a HUGE frontage.

I couldn't get on with the jersey stype ones as they just fell down.

Over the bump for me - and no problems keeping them up.
Have you tried asking on your local freecycle for maternity clothes? Also ebay great for some bargains too, the down side being you can't try them on, but you can always sell on if needs be.

Have you tried wearing braces?

Jeans? As in - getting dress properly?? Talk sense woman Tracksuit bottoms with large t-shirts, leggings with smock tops... Its the way forward!!!

Under the bump for me. Bought one pair of over the bump ones and took them back, they were so uncomfortable.

Under the bump for me. I also bought a pair of over bump ones from Mothercare and took them back as they were forever falling down. I've a pair of over-bump combats which have been sitting in my drawer for the past 15 weeks, I try them on weekly to see if they'll stay up but no luck so far. I'll bet I get about 3 days wear from them just before I'm about to pop!

I've found New Look jeans great - they're so comfortable for me.

I've always found jeans a problem (even before pg) though so am over the moon to have found 2 pairs which fit beautifully... DH says I'll just have to stay pg forever as these jeans look better on my than my pre-pg ones!

Over the bump from Gap kept falling down. Have some great under bump ones from Seraphine but they are becoming increasingly uncomfortable now (I'm 29 weeks). So recommend buying loose initially.

I can't stand over the bump jeans. They just feel so uncomfortable (and I'm only 20 weeks). I have bought a pair of under bump with adjusting side tabs. For the time being they are still loose but I have pulled the tabs right in and wear them with a bump band and they stay up fine.

Over the bump jeans made me feel like Simon Cowell, tbh. My under the bump ones fell down until someone suggested that I use a belt, which worked.

Gap do a good option which can be worn as either - so it's a really thick band of elastic, with a thinner bit above (sorry, harder to explain than I thought!). You can wear them under the bump without any buttons/adjusters digging in as the elastic is strong enough to hold them up, but then if you want/need to, you roll up the top bit and turn them in to over the bump. They're much less prone to falling down than the over the bump ones, but more comfortable than the topshop under the bump ones I've got with buttons!

Can't help really but thought I'd add my two-pennorth.

I have over-the-bump (Debenhams) that don't stay up at all, have found the best way of wearing them is turning the elasticky bit down so it creates a bump band and allows you to wear under-the-bump (they still fall down a bit though).

Tried with braces as well - horrid, uncomfortable, and they make you look the size of a house - they're just not made to fit a womans body - ESPECIALLY a pregnant one!

Thanks for all the tips - I am watching a few pairs on Ebay, but was interested to know what people thought before I get any as I obviously cant try them on. I think Ill try an over the bump pair to see what they are like. Keep adding to this link though please - its interesting to see what other people have found and which makes to try

Over - especially now the colder weather is coming! They also cover a multitude of sins when your huge pg knickers have to be slung under the bump and you're too mean (at 34 weeks) to buy the next size up .

I have over-the-bump jeans from my last pg and they drove me crazy - fell down non stop and they are even worse this time with having to carry a toddler about - I don't even have a spare hand to hitch them up - I cannot tell you how close I can to losing what little remains of my dignity in Tesco last week!!!!

Anyway - I have invested in some under bump jeans and they seem pretty good so far - certainly staying up better.

I think that body shape cut of the jeans has a lot to answer for!

Have to admit that I am fast resorting to dresses with thick tights/leggings!!

I bought a pair of over the bump maternity jeans from Asda for a tenner when pregnant with DD2 and they were FAB - I ended up wearing them for pretty much the whole of my pregnancy with DD3 as well.

I also liked them because I could wear them after my C-sections and they came up so high over my tummy they didn't rub my scar.

I had a pair of under bump ones and sold them on Ebay after one wear - I hated them!

I'm 25+/40 and have just ordered a pair of under bump jeans from Seraphine - sounds like they might only last a few more weeks though if bubbles is having difficulty at 29 weeks

Perhaps under bump is best early on and then over bump for last couple of months?

Actually I dont mind having a short lived pair of under bump jeans as I will be able to use them much earlier next time. I spent ages in this pregnancy 'managing' with my non-maternity clothes.
