lower back pain - any advice

Ow ow ow ow ow, my very lower back and hips have been really aching lately so it is hard to stand up, painful to sit upright etc Started after I slipped over in the shower/bath and landed on my bum about 3 weeks ago but is getting worse not better.

I had a lumbar spinal fracture about 2 years ago and there is a lot of scar tissue around the injury site rather than proper muscles. I just feel as if there aren't any muscles to take over from my stomach muscles now they are getting more stretched and everything is super-stressed. Been getting bad stomach pains as well and stitches as my stomach muscles try to 'support' my weaker back.

Does anyone have any advice or tips to help? Lying down is ok but then I can't get up again . Im 27weeks BTW and feeling a bit sorry for myself today as I'm normally a 'just get on with it' type of person but I feel crippled today

hello, sorry to hear about your troubles. of course you may have done this already but have you thought about getting some sort of orthapaedic (sp??) cushion/support? i gave birth nearly eight weeks ago and got a badly bruised coccyx in the process (no one ever warned me that might happen!) from hours of pushing and a large baby. i couldnlt sit down properly for weeks and then i discovered online that you could get special cushions to take the weight off your coccyx (physion supplies, through amazon). i know your problem is somewhat different but my cushion made no end of difference! good luck

whippet I'm with you!

I'm 23 weeks, and at the beginning of last week I suddenly got a shooting pain down one side of my back. I was in so much pain I didn't know what to do with myself, but luckily it went away after about 5 minutes.

Since then, I have had sciatica in one side of my bum or the other, and severe pain in my coccyx whenever I'm sitting down. I can't get comfortable in any position or any chair, the only way I can get relief is to lie down.

I'm going to see my doctor this afternoon and hoping to get signed off from work as my job involves sitting at a desk all day, which is really painful for me.

I also injured my coccyx a number of years ago by falling and landing on my bum on a sports hall floor. I've been told that pregnancy can aggrevate old back injuries (yey) so maybe that's why I'm having so much pain in my coccyx.

Sorry I've not been able to give any advice, I think I just needed to vent
