Early pregnancy insomnia

Hi everyone,

I am 11 weeks pregnant and for the last few weeks have been turning into an insomniac. I either cannot fall asleep for hours even though I am exhausted or I wake in the middle of the night and can't get back to sleep for ages.

I remember finding it a bit difficult to sleep last time but not until I was quite big.

Anyone have any ideas on what I can do as I am turning into a zombie?

Thanks.

Have you tried yoga breathing? Or a hypnobirthing CD? They really help me drift off. Also getting yourself into a routine, knowing that you do X, then Y, then Z, then go to sleep can help, too.

I had insomnia in January - I was worrying about trying for a baby again. A lot of problems with last PG.
I also had it early on with this one (2nd).
The doc said go to bed with a plan (this worked).
I cleaned the bedroon , put clean bedcovers on, left window open all day to air (you are to look forward to your bed, not dread).
Don't watch TV a good hour before bed, read a book, have a bath, chat to partner. Have a warm drink of milk or hot choc a good hour before.
Go to bed relaxed.
Take everything in your mind and imagine throwing it in a bag and putting it in the wardrobe.
If you are not asleep within 30 minutes
GET UP (very important).
Get up and read or have another hot drink.
Go back to bed. Same again.
I found this worked first night and I didn't look back.
The main point is though, if you don't get up, it runs away with you and you start to worry about not sleeping.
Hope all/some of this helps. good luck. x
